We stayed here for 4 nights as first-time hostel goers and were very impressed. We were greeted very warmly and allowed into our room earlier than expected. Room 8 was a very spacious private triple room with air conditioning, a big wardrobe and a safe. The shared bathroom was kept very clean at all times although occasionally there was a queue for a shower. Similarly, the shared kitchen was very clean and well equipped with free tea and coffee. We did not use the kitchen to cook in but were able to leave labelled goods in the fridge which was very useful. The hostel had free wi-fi and a computer with internet in the reception area. The hostel was generally quiet and any occasional noise at night was easily blocked out with ear plugs. Can't praise the owner enough, he was always very welcoming and helpful, sorting out any problems we had immediately. He annotated a map on our arrival which we used throughout our trip. As 3 young girls we felt very safe in this hostel - a nice surprise! The location of the hostel was great, restaurants and shops were reachable within 5 minutes and the beach in 15-20 mins. We were really pleased to be in the heart of Malaga, a fun and friendly spanish port.

Loved this hostel, had a really cool character to it, very spacious room. Wouldn't recommend Room 1, as it was sadly too loud to sleep - it's right on street. We were pleasantly surprised by Malaga, we'd just been to Seville and Granada and were sick of tourist overload and bad food. Malaga's food was great and everyone really friendly.

I stayed in a single room for 1 night - I arrived before midday (my ETA) but the room was already ready for me. The location was good, just off one of the main central roads in Malaga (down which some of the Semana Santa processions went) so the main sites were in walking distance though I wouldn't say it was close to the beach if that's what you want. The room was a reasonable size, as was the bathroom, and you could use their kitchen which was very well equipped. I didn't think it was particularly well sound proofed if you are a light sleeper. Internet access is free too - there is a computer near reception. The owner speaks fluent English though was sometimes difficult to get hold of. I had no idea when to check out and had to take the keys with me - I returned at lunchtime and this wasn't a concern, very laid back. As a hostel/hotel, I thought it was fine.

The srevice in La Casa Mata was excellent from the very first second we entered the building - the owner/administrator provided us with a map and gave us a quick and useful overview of sights to be seen in the vicinity. Also, he spoke perfect English which is always a pleasant surprise in Spain.
We had a reasonably sized room with twin beds, a cupboard table and a safe. Everything was freshly cleaned and the beds had very comfortable mattrasses. There was a kitchen for everybody's use, cutlery and plates and cups were supplied by the owner - most useful when travelling on a very small budget.
The location was absolutely fantastic - we could reach most attractions in the city centre in 5-10 minutes and the beach was also very near.
The only thing that one might complain about was that ther was just one bathroom to be shared by 8-10 rooms.

La Casa Mata is the perfect choice for a backpacker with a small budget.
