We stayed over the May half term when the weather was a little hit and miss - the pool area was fab, we could always get beds ( Although having read more recent reviews I would guess this was due to timing not availability) The rooms were fine, although the see through toilet door was odd!
Staying all inclusive was great, food was fabulous - freshly cooked and varied. We only ate from the buffet as we enjoyed it so much. Only downside and what has lost the hotel a mark is that despite arriving late at night on the first day, so we did not use all inclusive at all our all inclusive finished at 12 on the day of checkout, lunch at the hotel ended up costing over £100! Not a great final reminder of the time there.

I stayed at the Gran Elba for the first time in June this year and it did not disappoint. The service was excellent, the suite we had was very spacious and probably the best room I had ever had in a 5 star hotel. Breakfast was very good but if there was one minor criticism it was that the lunchtime menu wasn't that varied.

Overall a great hotel and I would certainly recommend and go back.

Room Tip: Would definitely recommend a suite, it's very spacious and the bathroom is fab!

Having just returned from 9 days at this hotel I have to start by saying it was a very nice hotel and one that I would definitely return to. On our arrival, we had a problem as there was no knowledge of our booking and after having to wait at reception for over an hour (which isn't easy with two young children and temperatures of 38 degrees), we eventually were given a room which was right at the end of the hotel. This in itself wasn't a major problem other than the air conditioning didn't work and the room overlooked the Naturist Village next door and believe me, you can see everything! After a very uncomfortable night in the room, I made a complaint and to be fair to the hotel, the manager took charge of events and moved us to a new room, with working air conditioning so after 24 hours we were able to start our holiday. We stayed in a Prestige Suite, which was an excellent size, with a very big balcony and a great view of the sea. We stayed on an All Inclusive basis and this is definitely worth the money as the drinks are not particularly cheap and when the weather is so hot, you really need lots and lots of drinks whilst around the pool. There was always plenty of beds around the pool and whilst the pool isn't massive it is plenty big enough for all around. In my opinion, the food was very good and whilst the buffet at lunch and dinner was repetitive, there was always plenty to choose from with lots of fresh shellfish and salads along with a chef offering all meats and fish cooked freshly whilst you waited. All in all, it wasn't a great start but the hotel redeemed itself and we really enjoyed our stay and would return.

We stayed for a week from 13:07:15 & had a great time.. We found the staff exceeded all our expectations, even the lady from housekeeping brought some cotton from her home to sew the button on my partners dress. We have been lucky enough to stay 5* world wide from New York to Vegas and the Hotel Elba Estapona meets a genuine 5* standard.

Congratulations to all your staff & manager.

Hope to see you all very soon..

Let me start by saying that I like good quality, my wife is a fussy eater, and one of our children has a life-threatening allergy to eggs and nuts. So we’re difficult to please….

This is a beautiful hotel, definitely 5 star standard, and the staff work enthusiastically to make you feel welcome. All right, there are a few areas which could be improved, but overall this is a lovely hotel, well run, and we had a fantastic holiday.

Greeted on arrival with a glass of cava, we were shown to our room. We had booked a Prestige Suite, and the room was stunning! Two double beds pushed together for us, and two separate single beds for the children in a sitting room area, separated from the bedroom by sliding doors. The main bedroom also had a large chaise lounge, a tv, and a dressing table/desk. The sitting room area (as well as the two beds) had a sofa and two armchairs, a dining table, a tv, and a dresser, containing minibar. We were on all inclusive, and the soft drinks, water and beers in the minibar are included – and replenished daily. The suite also had a gigantic shower, a large toilet and bidet, a Jacuzzi-type bath, and a vanity area with two basins and wardrobes (there is a small safe inside one). There was a separate box room for our suitcases, off the entrance hall to the suite. Our balcony had a beautiful view of the sea. Lovely fresh crisp white linen, good maid service and beds turned down each night.

The only problem with our room was the lack of air conditioning. We were told this was an issue on arrival and offered an additional fan if we wanted one. We found the best solution was to leave our balcony doors open (we were not on the ground floor). During our stay a new unit was installed and air con throughout the hotel changed from non-existent to reasonable, and in some cases very cool!

We only ate in the buffet restaurant, however we found it gave great choice. Because of the severe allergies in our family, we met with the Executive Chef Victor and the Head Chef Antonio, who were both extremely helpful in clarifying ingredients and in preparing food as required to ensure no cross-contamination. The personal service from them was impressive. Patricia and Pepa were always on hand in the buffet and were able to resolve any of our concerns. Again, their attention to customer care and their friendly approach was really appreciated. When we noticed nuts were being offered in all bar areas we mentioned it to Pepa, and they were immediately removed so as to reduce any risk to our family. The choice in the buffet was excellent, particularly at lunch and dinner, with fresh fish or meat (4 or 5 choices of each) available to be cooked to order by a chef, alongside three types of pasta with a choice of sauces, again prepared for you as you wait. The children’s area tended to offer pizza, nuggets, chips etc. An extensive salad bar, selection of prawns, shrimps, crab, lobster, cold meats, rice, cheeses, olives, breads, soup, as well as several hot dishes were always on offer. Desserts were sometimes a bit lacking in variety, but ice cream was always available and a wide selection of fresh fruit.

We made use of the laundry service while we were there, and were impressed by how quickly our items were returned, beautifully laundered – even though we hadn’t used the ‘priority’ service!

We spent the evenings mostly in the ‘chill out bar’ which also provided the nightly entertainment. Marcos the bartender was friendly and attentive, and served great drinks! The entertainment commenced at 8pm with the mini disco for the kids, although the first 15 minutes of this was quite often taken up with face painting or similar activities. Also they tended to run at least one game which meant once ‘out’, children would have to sit around waiting for the game to end. Perhaps more disco and less games would be good here? Once finished, the booked act(s) took over. These varied in terms of how good they were, and this tended to show by how long people stayed to watch! We saw two magic acts while we were there - one was good and one was poor. The female singers were okay, but the star for us has to be Mario, who did two nights per week at the hotel. His interaction with the guests, his repartee, and his choice of songs was spot on - a great hotel entertainer.

We didn’t venture to the adults only pool, but used the main pool and the paddling pool. The main pool was warm and welcoming. Only once or twice did it feel busy, with kids jumping in and inflatables everywhere – the rest of the time it was a great pool experience. Nice pool towels provided, and many sunbeds and umbrellas. The pool bar has a great selection of drinks and ice creams are available (not included in all inclusive, although you do get a 30% discount). Christina the bartender works extremely hard and should be commended for getting everything done whilst maintaining a happy, customer focussed demeanour. She was joined on one day by Meritxelle, who had previously been one of the lovely hardworking staff in the buffet getting drinks and clearing tables – and it was a pleasure to see them both working behind the pool bar – good interaction, and great fun.

The hotel and outside areas are well maintained and are kept very clean. There is a private beach with a few sunbeds and umbrellas.

We didn’t visit the Spa, but it looks fantastic.

There is a Kids club, which our two enjoyed – however there isn’t much to do for the older children and the two films they watched were in Spanish, so our two got bored very quickly. The staff at the club are very nice and friendly and Paloma especially good. However, there seemed to be no proper signing in and out process, and the doors are open when the kids are in there – anyone can walk in and out – plus the toilets are down the corridor not in the room. So it felt a bit of a risk that children might not be in the room when we got back! Some of their activities felt oddly timed – visiting the beach or pool at 1230 (when the sun is hottest) for example. But the indoor soft play area was really appreciated.

It was annoying that guests are permitted to smoke around the pool and in the outdoor restaurant area, perhaps providing dedicated areas for smoking would be a solution?

The staff throughout our stay were excellent –friendly, helpful, couldn’t do enough to make you feel welcomed. The General Manager, Juan Manual Galan, was extremely visible – he is in the restaurant at mealtimes and could be seen around the pool and other areas of the hotel throughout the day. It’s unusual but very good to see the senior manager walking the floor so regularly. He obviously cares a great deal about the guests’ enjoyment, and the staff follow his lead.

In summary, a great hotel, very relaxing, with good food and fabulous staff. We will definitely be back.
