Owner description: Watch tower from the eighteenth century, situated in the down town and the highest point of the city, turned today into a focal point of cultural interest. The tower has two exhibition halls, the Camera Obscura and the terrace from which you can enjoy wonderful views of CádizIts Cámara Obscura was the first one installed in Spain.

Torre Tavira is a fun place to visit. On top of the tower, there is a camera obscura, the first one installed in Spain. They have demonstration of it every half an hour or so. It was fascinating to see the simple yet sophisticated device. Bonus of going to the watch tower is the view from the roof top. The tower is located on the highest area of the town and you can see the iconic beautiful white building of old town of Cadiz reflecting sun light and the contrast with the deep blue Atlantic was magnificent. We happened to be on the roof when clock hit noon and all the churches in the town start ringing their bells. It was a magical moment.

Worth the hike for great orientation of the town - go here first - then see the camera obscura explanation for an even better view of the town. Stop at the city market before or afterwards...

We thought we'd have a look in the Camera tower as we were passing (And Cadiz is hardly awash with other things to do) .

Firstly the views - as one would expect - are really good from the top of the tower - one can get onto the roof and have a gaze at the City. Secondly its not just a tower and a camera obscura - there are some really informative displays on the city, and in particular its watchtowers.

The star however is the Camera Obscura. Although I had seen one before in Bristol (UK) I had forgotten just how impressive these things can be. There are timed demonstrations - one lets the ticket people know which language and they give you a ticket with a time on for the English talk. The actual "show" is fantastic - the guide points out various City highlights on the Obscura and makes it a very fun 15 mins.

Really glad we went up. Deffinateley reccomend it.

We really enjoyed seeing the camera obscura - it gave an amazing view across the whole of Cadiz and our presenter talked through many of the most important city sites in both Spanish and English. They only take 17/18 people inside the camera obscura room at any one time - that way everyone has a really good view of the projection disc. The talk lasted about 20mins. We had to wait about 40 mins for an allocated slot but in fact that was not a problem - by the time we had climbed the tower (there's no lift) and gone outside at the top for a look around we were soon called to go down the short flight of stairs to the obscura room. The people in the ticket office were decrying the fact that few people know about Torre Tavira - maybe that's to the advantage of us tourists, we might have had to queue for ages otherwise !

great views from an old tower, and its main attraction is a kind of trip around town and history led by a brilliant performer. bit short but funny.
