This was worthy of a visit in the historic centre, and a peaceful experience, in a mini time capsule for Jewish worship.

The synagogue was built in the 14th century and still has some of the original plaster reliefs and Hebrew inscriptions. It is small and built in the Muslim style of architecture. The synagogue was used for other purposes after the Jews were expelled from Spain in 1492. It is a poignant reminder of flourishing Jewish life in Spain before the Catholic Inquisition. Interestingly, Granada, Cordoba and Seville all have "Jewish Quarters" to this day even though Jews have not had a significant presence in those cities for the last five hundred years.

Apart from the religious connotations and the thought that this is only one of three synagogues left in Spain! This synagogue, though small is full of the most intricate, magnificent wall carvings, Truly beautiful.

Sometimes it the unexpected that surprises, this was one of them. Only one of three synagogues left in Spain, it is a small square building with some ornate plaster work, which has surprisingly survived. Well worth a visit.

As you make your way through the narrow streest of the Juderia, at one point your route will become even more crowded, as people/tour groups are lined up to have a look at the Sinagoga, one of only three from Medieval Spain - the other two are in Toledo.

The lines have to do with the number of tourists allowed to be in the place. These are carefully monitored and people are somewhat rushed in and out.

While it is small and there is not all that much to be seen, what you can see is a fascinating mix of Moorish and Jewish, and if you get a chance you should take the time in line (as long if not longer for the tour group I was part of) to see this unique holy place.
