Last spring my wife and I went to Dresden by train and we stay at Intercity Hotel. It was very close to the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) and the location was also near to restaurants, shopping mall and tram stations.
The room was clean and modern. Very nice and helpfull front desk staff who could speak English well. Plus, we got free tram tickets as compliment from the hotel.
All in all this is the best hotel for those who travel by train along Europe.

We picked this for the location which is nect to the main railway station. It's 15 mins walk from the main historical sights and the wrong end of town for the nightlife. Clean rooms, polite friendly staff but at the end of the day, it's a giant glass office block that is sterile and charmless. Our stay here was comfortable enough but for one thing. No tea and coffee making facilities.

A top choice, for me. Very clean and efficient. (Only drawback: no free Wifi.) I loved the fact that it is located right at the railway station (convenient for arrival and departure) and that they provided a complimentary transit card that made it easy to get around Dresden.

Wished we had a longer stay!

Only spent 1 night in Dresden - shopping in Dresden was very good and concentrated.

This was one of the best sleeps we had in Germany as the Intercity had very comfortable beds (and soundproof walls) - good when traveling with 2 young, noisy kids!

The hotel also threw in free Dresden City Transport passes - not that you really needed them as one can quite comfortably walk to the Opera House in under 30mins along the main shopping strip.

Only $85 per night (no breakfast, but free public transport passes) for a decent size double room on a weeknight. Hard to beat.

As noted by other reviewers, the hotel is right opposite the modernistic railway station, but there's virtually no audible train noise. Even knowing where it is, it's a bit tricky to actually get to the hotel by car because of the one-way streets.

The hotel is clean and seems efficiently run. Comparable in standard to a good Hyatt or Marriott. The restaurant's not bad at all. Comfortable bedroom with especially nice modern-design shower.

Dresden is interesting enough to merit at least a day of sightseeing. This hotel is a good choice for tourists or business travelers.
