Chemnitz (Karl Marx Stadt under the DDR) is today a City that is trying valiantly to reflect just some of the wealth, industry and vigor of West Germany. It is an uphill fight. Its goal is to become a technology center. The Chemnitzer Hof, built in the early 1930's reflects the style of the era compounded by years of neglect under the DDR. Its clientele is, basically, travelers-businessmen there on brief stays. It is Spartan, despite efforts to update some of the rooms. Sadly, Chemnitz, despite the efforts of a determined and effective City government, cannot yet afford the luxury of its West German Neighbors. Four stars for a brave and continuing effort.

From Frankfurt and driving too long we need a nice hotel where you can find everything around the corner. This hotel is right on the center and all what you need is just a walking distance. Hotel is clean and spacious (as of today they are renovating or repainting as it still smells paint but not bad). Across the street is a parking area which is free from 20:00 bis 8:00 but first come first served as it is not big enough. I guess 5 to 6 cars only which good for us to get a slot then we don't need to pay for the overnight fee. But the hotel has its own parking area yet you need to pay extra I guess 10 euro.. Breakfast has a lot of choices enough to fill in your stomach. Their restaurant offers variety of good delicious foods. And friendly staff is a plus.

This hotel is fabulous in every way. Only a short walk from Chemnitz's main train station and from the town centre. The rooms are large and well quiet at night. The receptionist spoke excellent English and was extremely helpful. Breakfast is excellent with a wide selection. The room rates do not reflect the quality of this hotel - it truly is excellent value for money.

Room Tip: I had a quiet room overlooking the adjacent church and park - it was ideal.

Hotel is on the main road and very close to the train station and not very far away from the chemnitz university. Rooms were very spacious and internet was included in the room price, had to adjust the room price a little bit. Breakfast was not included in the price.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A classic in new style - that is the Hotel Chemnitzer Hof. This impressive 4-star-superior house is situated in the most beautiful architectonic location in Chemnitz beside the Opera House, the art collection "Kunstsammlungen" and the "Petrikirche". Its vicinity to the city centre means, that you are just a few minutes' walk away from the main train station, the university and the expansive "Schlossteich" park. The house was built in "Bauhaus Style" after the plans of the famous architect Prof. Dr.-Ing. Heinrich Straumer between may 1929 and October 1930. Since the careful renovation the Chemnitzer Hof shines in new splendour - more modern and more comfortable. Restored are the restaurant, the ball rooms and the attractive lobby. Unchanged is everything that stands for the noblesse and the uniqueness - a great architecture in marble, sandstone, wood and brass. 89 Rooms (140 beds) in the categories of first class and comfort, 3 suites, all with bath/shower, WC, hair dryer, sat TV with free Sky Sports channels, telephone, free Wi-Fi, radio and safe (more equipment depending on class of room); Opera restaurant & lounge; sauna; business-room; lift, direct access to the city underground car park.
