I stayed here for one night and really like it. I had a single room which was small but very clean and comfortable with ensuite bathroom. There was a refrigerator which was very welcome in the Summer heat but of course it was full of minibar products so I had difficulty accommodating my own supplies of water and beer. And they have free wifi - One of my pet hates is being charged extra for internet.

The Saechsischer Hof is less then five minutes walk from Chemnitz city centre and is even closer to the main train station. All the staff are very polite and helpful. The breakfast is excellent - a buffet with lots of choice.

This hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the main station and 20 minutes from the town centre. It's in an OK area, but not too smart. The staff are very friendly and it's clean and tidy, though not very modern. My single room was rather small, but acceptable. There's no air conditioning, so it might be hot in the summer. The restaurant is quite good, and relatively inexpensive. Warning; the restaurant and bar shut at 9pm on Sunday evening, as does most of Chemnitz. Overall it's good value for a short visit.

The rooms are a nice size, there are big windows, the beds are good, bathrooms are OK with a good shower. The only down side is that there is no AC and we got there during a heat wave. If it wasn't so hot outside, it would have been OK as we could open the window wide. Breakfast good and the service was very friendly. The card with the wifi information they give you at the front desk said you had to pay for it but it was free for guests.

The Sachischer Hof has old roots although our guess is that has been extended and its rooms have been much modernised. Situated in a quiet street in the centre of the town, it met all of our needs. The breakfast was superb. The town is well worth a visit. Heavily damaged during the Second World War (as a major industrial centre it drew the attention of the Allied air forces), much of it (renamed Karl Marx Stadt) was reconstructed thereafter in the 'house style' of the DDR. Although it's a deeply unfashionable view to hold, I'm rather attracted to the post war East German urban development and am glad to note that in many places they are now being restored - to a far better standard than that used in their initial construction.
