We only stopped here for one night in our way back home to UK. The hotel is situated in what looked like down town Saarbrucken. There is only street parking, if you can find a space and then you also have to pay depending on the times you are there.
It looks ok from the outside however once inside the poor hotel is so, so tired and in desperate need of modernisation, anything more recent than 1970s would be nice.
The town itself was buzzing but was about a miles walk away from hotel! Would stay in the town again but not in this hotel sadly.

Hotel is central. On street parking outside on hard court is available payable at machine in no more than three hour slots 8am - 8pm. Helpful concierge will top-up if necessary. Large clean rooms. Sparse decor with everything necessary - one nice touch was linen foot mats by the bed. Not much signage in the hotel. Did not use the pool facilities in the tiny basement. Breakfast room very Mad Men and food was plentiful and very good. Saarbrucken centre a few minutes walk along the river past theatre and up stairs to pedestrianised areas. City centre very attractive architecture. Great meal in semi-basement at the Rathaus. Wifi in hotel a bit tricky to access. Add BOTH codes you are given at reception.

Room Tip: The rooms with balconies are delightful

Our room at Hotel Meran was very clean, modern, and spacious. It came even with a balcony and view over beautiful garden. We were pleasantly surprised. The bed was very comfortable too. The swimming, sauna and showers were also very nice, spotlessly clean and our primary reason for choosing this hotel. We were not disappointed. The price is quite reasonable for what you get. I'd recommend this place and may go back the next time in Saarbrucken.
There is a functional lift too so no need to haul luggage up stairs.

The staff, however, is not particularly friendly or helpful, also only German-speaking if that is an issue. When we asked if more lights could be turned on in the swimming area, the answer was "that'd be nice, but no". When my friend asked if they served coffee they said "only if you make it". That may be humor, but still... Though they clearly write in the room that the breakfast buffet is served all morning long, when we went at 10am we were told by the lady that these were no hours for having breakfast and most people should be preparing for lunch. It was very disappointing. This is the only reason why I do not rate the hotel excellent instead of good.

The neighborhood surrounding the hotel is trendy, lots of multicultural restaurants (Persian, Lebanese, Tunisian), also typical German pubs, but trendy bars and clubs, and various types of shops too. A supermarket is nearby. It is totally possible to buy something and eat it in the room. The area is not very lit at night though and could be an issue with some people traveling alone. The downtown area is a five minute walk, so location is good.

Room Tip: As for the rooms on the upper floors overlooking the garden. Confirm breakfast on arrival.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for two nights.
We were welcomed by one of the two elder gentleman.
He was very friendly and very helpful in suggesting places to dine and walk around.
We love the seventies design and furniture of the hotel.
Our luxurious room was renovated with a nice new bed, closet, desk, ect.
Yet it still maintained a great combination of old and new.
It had it's own bathroom and separate toilet.
They needed to be updated tough, specially the toilet.
I used the pool and I loved it. Breakfast was great!
Wifi was very strong and dependable. It has a separate router on each floor.
One very big drawback was the parking situation. It's free to park in the street during the weekend but during the week you can only pay for three hours at a time, which was inconvenient.
One tip:
I recommend going to the river nearby, the riverbanks are green with nice biergarten's and little playgrounds. All the locals were hanging around there, walking with their dogs, playing with their children, drinking with their friends. Also there is a very good thai restaurant around the corner from this hotel.
