Historic and beautiful place for a tour, drinks and upscale dinning. We visited with a friend from Mainz who arranged a tour of the old wine making facility which contains the largest wine barrel in Europe as well as many cool old pictures and jewel encrusted wine goblets, etc. Lots of history in the place and they are renowned for their Sekt which is wonderful sparkling wine similar to Champagne. They have a beautiful garden out back with seating where we had drinks and then retired inside to one of the main dining halls for a wonderful dinner. Their wine selection is outstanding and their menu is not very large, but the food was done perfectly. You can order by courses and I had soup, veal and tortellini which was all excellent. The service was great too – white glove service no less. Overall this was a unique experience and I would highly recommend it. This is a great venue of for a large party or a romantic dinner for two. This restaurant is located right across the street from the Novotel Mainz.
