Wonderful but costly experience

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 9 Jul 2013
What a nice hotel, clean and comfortable. It is not cheap, and it is not near the city centre, but we were here for a concert at Borussia Park, 5 min walk away, so... Perfect. Good food in the restaurant and fun family style breakfast, we were assisted by courteous and helpful staff throughout. Would recommend, and will consider again, especially for stadium events, but prices are steep...

We were in M´gladbach in Dec2011 for a football game, and Palace St. George happens to be located no more than 200-300 meters from Borussia Park. So, if football is the reason of you visit to tow, it´s the perfect location! It is not close to the city center, however... The hotel occupies a building in a kind of English village from WWII. It is quite interesting. There is parking space available at no cost, and also a restaurant which seems to be good (we didn´t try it - and it is a bit pricey). Service is corteous. Room is huge, huge, huge, like a small apartment. Really nice!!! Bathroom is also very large and comfortable. The only negative are the mattresses. Way too soft! And the management knows about it! We went to talk to the front desk to see if there was anything that could be done to remedy the situation, and the lady in charge told us that this was a common complaint... but there was nothing she could do. What a shame! It´s really the only reason why we wouldn´t go back.

We stayed in the palace and had to rent two rooms, the rooms were across from each other. One door was shut and locked to make one big room for my family. Loved the idea. The real wooden floors were very clean and the bedding and bathrooms were very clean. I thought the breakfast bar would be a little larger, but it was a very exciting place to stay. It was very pricey but for one night we got to say we stayed in a Palace. If you love castles it was like a mini castle!

Cannot fault the hotel. It is a classy dining establishment with 12 rooms in a tastefully converted former chapel used by British forces post-war - hence the name. It even retains its spire and bell. Visited for a wedding reception and stayed two nights - double room 160 Euros per night which was pricey for us poor Brits! Reckon 120 Euros more reasonable. Rooms fit into charachter of the converted chapel and so are all unique and it is a classy and very well-appointed hotel retaurant in very pretty and relatively quiet surroundings. Food for the events was rated outstanding by the guests. Close to the famous football stadium and it was fun to see some Liverpool fans arriving for a pre-season friendly. A venue for wealthy people - or if you wish to impress! Chef patron much in evidence and very friendly although little English.
