Don't be put off by the seemingly 'suburban' area.
That is part of its charm!
We stayed for one night but could easily have stayed longer.
Very welcoming reception and a lovely room.
Everything reminded us of 'Industrial Scandi'.
No complaint though - it was clean as a whistle and beautifully proportioned.

I would have loved to have been there on a Saturday when the market fills the square!

They have a cookery school next door.
Having eaten a really fine meal in the restaurant, I have already suggested a return so I can take a class in how to make the strawberry dessert!

Need a quiet, comfortable, cosy, clean, modern, stylish place to stay in Essen? Fine gourmet dinner and fresh food for breakfast? Then don't hesitate to choose this nice gasthaus in the suburbs of Essen and you will be welcomed by friendly, polite, smiling and very service-minded personnel. The hotel looks newly refurbished, with spacious rooms, good beds, modern bathroom , big TV, a/c and access to a little courtyard through the door. Coffee, tea and fresh water in the lobby. Would highly recommend the restaurant: our grilled steaks with fresh veggies were delicious! Have a cup of coffee on the little terrace and enjoy the picturesque neighborhood with beautiful villas and a lot of green and flowers!

This hotel has really very good kitchen and is located in old, nice part of Essen. Directly in front of main entrance is twice per week market. Across of small square is Edeka if someone needs to buy some food etc.

this is a surprising hotel, the outside looks traditional and is a lovely looking building right on the market square, in a quiet area of town, but the inside is modernist, so a bit of a shock, rooms are nice, but I would try and avoid 30-32 as they are off the main lounge area and seem to pick up quite a bit of residual noise until people go to bed, or when they meet early. Rooms are a nice size, but the AC could not be turned fully off and it whined a bit all night. Staff friendly and helpful. This would be my pick of business hotels in Essen

Room tip: not rooms 30-32
