“A good place to stay in Dusseldorf”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2010

This hostel was not the best I've stayed in, but it was a good place to stay nonetheless. The facilities were clean and the staff was very friendly. The dorms are mostly all big ones though so if you are looking for somewhere private look elsewhere. I believe this is the cheapest hostel in Dusseldorf, and it's worth its price, especially since it comes with breakfast. Breakfast was only white and wheat bread with a toaster, coffee, jam/ nutella/ butter, tea, and sausages, but was nice to have for free. The location is good if you don't mind a short walk into town or a cheap taxi ride. It was quiet at night so sleep was good and the walk to the old town was very easy and only took about 20 minutes. I don't have much to say about the hostel, because nothing about it made me upset and nothing about it made me love it. Just a decent place to stay.

Me and my friend had a 16 hour stop over in Dusseldorf and did not want to book anything to pricey for our night there, so went for a bed in the 10 bed dorm!

First impressions are that its not the greatest hostel (its down a back-street from the main road), but I have been in worse I suppose and for 17 Euros I was not over fussy!

You enter the hostel through the kitchean area and the reception is pretty easy to miss but once you find it you will probably have to wait another 5 or 6 minutes as the staff will probably out the front smoking a cigarette (when I went to find him I got the impression that he was not prepaired to move until he had taken his last draw of his fag!).

Beds are what you expect! You get a cover for your pillow and bedsheets!

Hostel has usual facilities - bathroom and toilets, tv lounge, free internet etc....

In terms of location, though Dusseldorf is not the biggest city, it is not the greatest! Its about 5 minutes by taxi (6 euros for the journey) and you are about a 15-20 minute walk to the Altstadt (old town!).

We had to check out at 6am before any of the staff had got up, so never tried the breakfast, so can not say what it was like!

All in all, I think my stop off in Dusseldorf was a one off, but in future I would probably do a little more research and book something more central.

I stayed here for 2 nights and thought it was ok. I was on room 4 I think. I had wifi in the room and didn't have any problems with this. Bathrooms smelled a bit but were decent. I didn't like the showers because there were 2 that were connected and only a shower curtain covering a certain portion of one section so you could see the other guy in the one beside. Breakfast was bread and spreads and cereal too I think. Reception was really friendly both times. I was leaving early in the morning so it was fine that I just leave my sheets on the bed. I had no problems with the bed. Be aware though that none of the rooms have locks on them. This was not an issue for me because each room had security lockers and the clientele seemed really chill so I don't think this is something to worry about. There was a quiet courtyard to talk or play ping pong. They also had a living room like area with a tv. Location was a bit of a walk from the train station but manageable. I think it was an ok location to get to everything in the city. Ktichen also included.

I stayed there for 2 nights (with 10 days interval), had a dorm in a room for 6 person. for the first night everything was ok: comfortable bed, normal neighbours, window view was patio (ask for the 3rd room to have it, if you want to sleep well). I think pillows were also ok. BUT! the last night was really terrible. it was a room 2 and I could hear everything on the street: really noisy cars etc. a mattress was too soft, and so was a pillow. I also cant say that wifi connection was good in a room - signal was very low and impossible to connect to the network. maybe its ok in a lobby or in a kitchen, but i needed it in my room.
in common the hostel is ok. bathroom are clean and usable, so are WCs. breakfast is ok. the thing i didnt like is closed kitchen and reception from 10pm until 8am. that is terrible in case of early check-out (no opportunity to rent a locker). and location - I wouldt say the hostel is very close to Hbf or Friedrichstadt station or Alt Stadt. but thats just my own point - to live somewhere close to both Hbf and Historical centre. that's not about this hostel.
but you know - staff is really great and helpful! that matters!

A very nice hostel -- the beds were comfy, bathrooms and rooms were very clean. The staff couldn't have been friendlier. Free lockers and free wifi, along with coffee in the morning were all pros. Only a 10 mins walk to the brewery area. A great value in Dusseldorf.
