Auszeit Hotel Dusseldorf

The hotel is good enough. I stay at a lot of hotels around Germany, and I don't understand how this one is ranked 3rd on TripAdvisor in Dusseldorf. True, there aren't loads of reasonably priced places in the city center, but I wouldn't agree that this one is third best. One thing I would say negative is that my bedding had clearly not been changed for a while. Not the base sheet, but the pillowcases and quilt cover. The breakfast was good and the staff are friendly enough. It is pretty remote, but you can walk to the S-Bahn 701 or get a taxi to the city center. If you like nature and walking, the Volksgarten is nearby and a good place to go for your morning run. Wifi is spotty in some of the rooms (or parts of your room), so maybe don't rely on being fully connected the whole stay. I would recommend the place if it's a budget choice.

Room Tip: 403 is apparently one of the biggest/best rooms.

A strange location, about 10 minutes from the volkspark s-bahn station ( 1 stop to main rail station ), but not so convenient for the old town, as you either walk beyond sbahn to kruppstrasse tram stop, or from outside the door you can go direct the long way round ( c. 30 mins), or change at karolinga platz. nothing much in the immediate area apart from the chance to walk round a nice park, or use the onsite sauna or small gym.
The hotel gives the impression of being a conversion from apartments or offices, and does not have any real atmosphere. Having said that the rooms and fittings are of good quality and trendy design, maintaining the burgundy and grey theme down to the towels. lots of extras also in the bathroom amenity kit.
big flat screen tv, but only german-language channels.
service was unfailingly cheerful and helpful, once reception switched me to the quieter park-view i had requested in my online reservation. ( don't understand why they did not allocate correctly in the first place..)
the breakfast is expensive at 15 euros, but is truly outstanding. with the hotdeal room rate we paid, adding on the breakfast still came to a reasonable 52 euros for the whole lot. treat yourself one day - you will certainly be able to skip lunch !
knowing my way around the tram system a bit better now, i would not hesitate to book again if i could get a parkside room at a good rate.

I stayed in this hotel with some friends for 4 nights and would recommend it to anyone. The staff were very friendly and spoke good English, were very helpful with directions, and suggestions of things to go and see or do. We did not take the breakfasts as we were travelling early each morning to Monchengladbach but the choice seemed to be fantastic. It was the little touches that made the stay so good, like the range of free sweets and ice cream at reception, the plastic ducks and sweets on the pillows!!! Car parking is €8.50 per day in the hotel car park and I would suggest using this as it is a secure undergrounds, gated car park and there have been thefts from cars parked on the streets nearby. The hotel is close (about 10 minutes walk) to a tram stop that will take you into the city centre. There is also a small gym for those that feel the urge and the mini bars in the rooms are very very reasonably priced for a hotel.

Overall, a very good hotel. As everyone has noted, the breakfast buffet is terrific. Our corner room was very spacious with a nice view of the garden. Everything was very clean and in working order, and the service was pleasant and helpful.

Some small negatives: The windows in the hotel open, but there is no air conditioning. Also, the "curtains" are sliding panels, which weren't great at blocking the sunlight in the morning, so pack an eye mask if that's an issue for you. Also, be aware that there are privacy shades that lower via hand cranks next to the windows. That helps a bit. Another odd thing (for this American, at least) was that the beds have no top sheets, just individual comforters, which are a little too warm for summer with no A/C. Unfortunately, the thin pillows are just hopeless if you are a side sleeper. Finally, our wireless Internet was free with the room, but it expired every 24 hours. It was not convenient to need a new login code each morning.

The only other critique is that the hotel is rather distant from shopping and dining opportunities, but a local tram stops in front of the hotel. If you can figure out Dusseldorf's tram system, you are set!

Room Tip: Request a garden view. The most spacious rooms are in the corner of the building.
