IntercityHotel Duesseldorf
Ranked #86 of 241 Hotels in Dusseldorf
Reviewed 31 March 2010

I do like staying in national-chain hotels as an occasional luxury during my travels--they have certain national quirks that global chain hotels don't have (such as the minibar contents, breakfast menus and various other amenities), while offering predictable cleanliness and hot water.

InterCityHotel Dusseldorf was no exception. Not exceptional, with a less than obvious location near the station (for some unknown reason, the Ibis hotel IN the station still has an InterCity sign, while the actual intercity is a couple of blocks away). Neighborhood isn't great amenity-wise, though it's certainly accessible. And single room means single room, even when it was a Sunday night and there were few other guests.

Still, I like the feel of InterCity hotels--very German and well-maintained--and everything worked. Best was the minibar--which was a simple fridge that still had room for my own beer and lunch fixings.

great location very close to the main station and within easy walking distance to downtown city centre. Room was adequate, had to ask for extra pillows but the service was quick and polite. Great shower ,no coffee facilities in room. The free pass for travelling on the public transport is a fantastic offer -we used it every day.

We arrived in the evening and walked from the station to the hotel. The first room we were given had not been cleaned and we were upgraded to a business class room which had tea making facilities. The kettle had not been used for some time and required a good cleaning. The filter was disgusting. We had read a review about being asked for a credit card for extras and being charged for the holiday over again, so we opted to pay the deposit in cash of €25. The tram stopped outside the hotel and with the free hotel transport ticket all our journeys on the underground, tram, bus and train were free. It does cost a supplement to visit Köln, and Essen, which is not very clear on the ticket. There's lots to do for shopaholics and breweries to visit and boat trips on the Rhein.
