Had a very comfortable stay here in November 2011. The hotel is situated right on the banks of the Rhine and only about 50 metres from the Chocolate Factory Museum. It is also very close to the other attractions of the city such as the cathedral and all the bars and restaurants of the centre, which is only a 5 minute walk away.

The rooms are modern and absolutely spotless. They were cleaned daily, given fresh towels etc. To be honest I couldnt of asked for a better room for only paying £70 per night.

I have been to Cologne twice before and think it is a fantastic city and would definately consider staying here again.

Stayed here whilst visiting the Xmas markets
Location is fairly good being near to one of the markets but is a little walk to city centre
My main issue with this hotel is that the basics aren't there. Service is brisk to say the least unhelpful would be more honest. Internet in rooms is charged at €15 per day, when I called to check this the receptionist was not sure. When the Internet wire was brought to my room (no wifi in room here) I asked where the connection was but was met with a blank face
At 930pm I phoned for room service to be told kitchen was closed - no apology or suggestion of somewhere nearby to eat just a very firm no!
Finally my room - I booked a queen bed at €160 per night including breakfast. Room was tiny with a bed just bigger than a single. Whilst rate included breakfast which would normally be €18 (nice spread but steep price in isolation) I feel the hotel was very overpriced. I am sure I could have secured an ibis which would have been comparable quality and will do so next time

I stayed here with my wife and ten year-old son for two nights in December 2011 while visiting Cologne's Christmas Markets.

The hotel is located just across the road from one of the markets and the Chocolate Museum. It's no more than ten minutes walk from the Old Town, plus another five to ten from the Cathedral. We were very happy with the location, as we found it to be within comfortable
walking distance of all the main attractions, but just a little out of the way of the hustle and bustle to give you some breathing space.

On arrival, we found that the hotel had received incorrect information from our booking agent and was expecting only two, not three guests, but the staff quickly regrouped and allocated us a spacious family room at the back of the hotel. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable with plenty of storage space. My only minor criticism might be that the television was too small for the size of the room (you might struggle to see the screen when sitting on the bed), but on the other hand, we were not in Cologne to spend much time watching TV.

Breakfast was not included in our room rate, and seemed expensive at 18 Euros per person per day (although children eat free), but there was an excellent range of hot and cold food on offer from the buffet, and we were certainly able to eat well and keep ourselves going for much of the day.

The hotel also benefits from an underground car park, although space is limited so you cannot guarantee it will be available. We were fortunate to find the last empty space when we arrived, and I was happy to spend 16 Euros per day for the convenience and security which the car park provides.

We were very satisfied with the comfort, facilities and location of the NH Hotel, and would certainly consider returning.

I booked this at the last minute before our trip to Cologne for some Christmas shopping. The price was the thing that caught our attention, and having read the other reviews felt confident that all was going to be fine. Well, it was excellent. I know there are people with far greater experience of worldwide hotels than us but we thought it was great. Clean comfortable room, (maybe lacking the most comfortable of pillows) but with a couple of Gluwhein's to past the evening away from the christmas markets you were never going to struggle to sleep!!!! Road noise at the front of the hotel?: yes, there is, but with the window shut you can't really hear it.
The reception staff were very good, Concierge service took care of the bags as our room wasn't available, we had arrived at 10am, so i wasn't expecting it anyway.
We were told 1500 hours and when we got back it was all sorted. Breakfast was also very good, if you could get up and eat enough then you could probably get to the evening without needing anything in between. In terms of distance from the centre, it was 10-15 mins walk, 20-25 Amble. Its along the river so you don't tend to notice the difference. We did use taxi's on our nights out and the were between 6-8 euro's depending if you got dropped at Heumarkt or Neumarkt. And there are plenty of them around all hours of the day.
Give it a go as you could easily pay more and get far less fo other hotels. Either that, or you stay out of the city, but that seems a bit pointless when the idea is to be near everything..

Room Tip: Request non smoking(if you are on) and rear of hotel(it might be quieter maybe)

Hotel about 20 minutes walk from station, away from noise of old town but close enough to city centre to be a good base. Room large and clean and great choice for breakfast (at 18 euros).
