“Super hotel in cologne”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2012

We went for a short stay in Cologne and opted to stay at the Pullman due to the great reviews on here and a good value through expedia.

On arrival we were met by a superfriendly team at the reception and got a great room with a city view as requested. The rooms very super standard and better than expected. We needed an iron and ironboard which was delivered with seconds. Super service. The bed was one of the best I ever experienced in a hotel, best sleep ever!!

The location is also excellent, easy walking distance to centre of town and to trendy Ehrenstrasse and Friesenstrasse with all the bars. The receptionist recommended us to go to Paeffgen on Friesenstrasse for the perfect cologne experience, super traditional food and koelsch, recommended!

Unfortunately the stay was too short to enjoy any of the other amenities, but if I come back to Cologne, I will definitely stay here. thanks pullman cologne!

Room Tip: Ask for city view / view of the Cologne Cathedral

We stayed in the Pullman Cologne on Helenenstrasse in April 2012. Our room was on the 8th floor, with a view of the Dom (Cathedral). The room was average sized, with a king sized bed, a writing desk, a chair and an armchair, a flat screen TV and a mini bar as well as an electric water kettle and fixings to prepare tea or coffee. The bathroom was newish and although not big, it had all we needed - a bath tub with a shower, a toilet and a sink with a hairdryer and nice toiletries. The tiled floor is heated which is a lovely detail.

There was also a safe in the entry hall.

I must say, the bed was the best feature of the hotel room! It was so comfortable, honestly the best hotel bed I've encountered. The mattress had a down filled mattress topper, and the bedding was of very luxurious high thread count cotton, very smooth and silky to the touch. Plenty of pillows (6 for 2 people), too.

We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel, we chose to go to various bakeries and cafés in the morning, there are so many of really good ones on the Breite Strasse, just a couple of minutes' walk from the hotel (turn left when you leave through the main entrance, take the St Apern Strasse and after about 100 m you will get to the Breite Strasse - a very long street in the pedestrian zone, with all kinds of cafés, bakeries and restaurants, and shops.

The room was spotlessly clean when we arrived and the housekeeping did a great job every morning. I also noticed that we didn't hear any noises from the halls or other rooms, so I assume the walls are well insulated. This, of course, adds to the restful sleep along with the comfy bed.

There is WLAN in the hotel but it's not free, the same goes for the underground parking garage, it costs 23 EUR per day which is a bit pricey but not out of the ordinary for the center of Cologne where parking spots are hard to find.

The hotel has a restaurant on its top floor with a view of the city, and there is a spa on the 2nd floor.

The check-in and check-out were both quick and the staff friendly.

We would love to go back to this hotel.

We stayed here for 4 nights in November to visit the Christmas markets. The hotel is in a quiet street about 10 mins walk away from the town centre. The staff are incredibly friendly, the rooms are lovely - very modern and the breakfast is probably the best standard I have ever received in a hotel - there was so much we were spoilt for choice. On the day we left, we had to get up just before breakfast started so we asked at reception if we could have a substitute. They agreed immediately and the next morning as we left at around 6:00 to get our flight home we were presented with the most extensive lunch box I have ever seen! Sandwiches, cereal bars, sweets, chocolates, smoothies, yoghurts, yoghurt drinks, fruit, you name it - they packed it! I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

The hotel staff were all very helpful and friendly. Special mention to lovely Esther who was probably the nicest hotel staff member/human being we've ever encountered in our travels. Fabio was also very nice.
The hotel looks great and the rooms are spacious and modern. Our balcony view was the Dom.
The hotel breakfast spread was unbelievably plentiful and the good thing was that it was available till midday on the weekends, so you dont have to drag yourself to breakfast if you've been out partying the night before.
Location is also very central. 10 minute walk to central rail station.
Yes, people still smoke in bars and clubs in Cologne (often with no ventilation) and you could at times smell cigarette smoke in parts of the hotel. But overall it was ok.
The gym was also very well equipped (for a hotel gym). You need to get headphones for the treadmill from reception. The aircon needed to be cooler though..
A few nice restaurants nearby: Bento Box and Kitti chai (a thai place with the biggest portions i've ever seen in a thai restaurant, and very affordable too).
Cologne is a nice city, not very pretty, but very compact and friendly. It helped that we got sunny and hot weather for 5 days in a row. Only time we used the tube was to go to the zoo, but we walked back and it was beautiful walking by the Rhine and browsing the market stalls.
The chocolate museum was good, but nothing amazing. You can just eat in the cafe area: the double chocolate torte was delicious.

We stayed here for three nights during a 10-day trip through the Rhine region. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we had the best night's sleep of our whole trip. The hotel is an easy 15 minute walk from the train station, Cathedral, and surrounding museums. There is a lovely shopping area in the adjacent neighborhood.

We had an excellent rate through Hotels.com. Breakfast was included. The breakfast buffet was substantial. Although this appears to be a hotel that mostly caters to business travels, the staff took the time to answer our questions about navigating the city.

There were a few downsides, however. Our room was very dusty. There is no free WiFi and the hotel fees to get online are on the high side. And, while it wasn't a problem for us, there was a window in the wall separating the bathroom from the sleeping area. The window has a shade, but it could nevertheless be something to consider for two business colleagues sharing a room.
