I spent 3 days at this hotel and it was overall a very nice stay. The hotel itself is very original and has a beautiful look. However the carpet is made mostly of pale colors, and looked dirty (both in corridors and in the rooms). The shower was very nice! However I find that having the sink outside the bathroom is not very practical, but that is a personnal preference.
At 18 euros, the breakfast is definitly on the expensive side. However the choice of food should please most persons. By foot it is less than 10 minutes away from the old part of town, maybe 15 to 20 from the cathedral.
The price was okay, not cheap but not too expensive. Wi-fi was included.
Worth a try!

Room Tip: Not so much noice on the side facing the street. Not worth paying 10 Euros for the riverside view.

Art'otel Cologne is not my usual kind of hotel but I somehow really enjoyed it.
Good location, got an upgrade "riverside" with nice view. Big, clean and convenient, actually the room was really big, nice shower, little kind of terrace over the water. Also really quiet.
Best part was actually the breakfast. It's huge and supercomplete. It's simple you have everything, and it's served from 6AM or so to noon.
My rate included the breakfast which made it even a better deal. Will definitely go back there if in Cologne sometime soon.

This is a good hotel, it is clean, comfortable and is within a 10 min walk from the main attractions of Cologne, however nothing about this hotel blew me away or really impressed me, so I would rate it as average.
We stayed in a double with a view of the Rhine and while the room was well sized and the bed extremely comfortable, the view of the Rhine wasn't as great as I imagined/hoped for.
The bathroom was ample in size and the shower very impressive, nice big amazonian shower head and good water pressure.
However in the hotels efforts to be art deco, the shower wall is coloured and when you switch on the light in the middle of the night in the bathroom, it lights up the sleeping area.

Overall it was a good hotel and value for money.

Stayed at this establishment in May this year. Right on the bank of the Rhein River and across the Chocolate Museum... A great location that's also close, on foot, to other attractions.

We were asked to pick a room (pink, blue or yellow). Went for the blue, feeling it was a calm and neutral colour. When we got in, all looked ok. Pleasant, bright and nice. Quite large too, by Cologne standards.

On closer inspection though, the carpets REALLY needed a good clean... Or a more powerful Hoover. A lot of hair (not ours) on the carpet on which there were also spots that didn't get cleaned, thus marring an otherwise bright and cheery room.

I asked for some room slippers. Didn't want to walk on the funky carpet. Was provided with a flimsy disposable pair which - I realized later - was from the sauna. Broke the same evening. When I requested for another pair, I was told they didn't have any more (by a girl who seemed to be on her first job and didn't really need/want it). To my relief, I found a replacement pair at the sauna myself.

Room amenities are basic at this business hotel. But the restaurant downstairs serves great breakfasts and we also had a very nice dinner there. The lounge area has a good choice of newspapers too and is stylishly done up.

All in all, I think it's good for a business hotel and the location is great for holidy-makers too but staff could be better trained and the rooms could be cleaner. It wouldn't hurt to put a few more in-room amenities either - hotel slippers for example. The rooms just need a few such extra touches, and then they would be worth the price.

Rooftop terrace under-utilized. Check it out.

I just came back from Cologne, we went there to see the Christmas Markets. We stayed at Art'otel for 3 nights. The hotel is very well located, it's only about 200 metres from one of the markets and the Lindt Chocolate Museum! There is no need to catch public transportation to get to the other markets or the Cathedral, you can just walk to the major tourist attractions and restaurants/bars. It costs about 25 euros for a taxi from the airport to the hotel.

The room was very nice, it had a large bed (no singles joined together as many hotels seem to do nowadays) but the fact that they give you 2 single duvets for a kingsize bed is very disappointing... Also the shower room was flooding all the time, the drain was not working properly so we had to put towels on the floor to stop the water going into the bedroom!

The room decoration was nice, it was a large room with a flat screen TV, a mini fridge and coffee making facilities.

We opted not to have breakfast there as it cost 18 euros per person (very expensive for Cologne), so I can't comment on that.

That said, I would stay there again and recommend it, mainly because of the location and the price per double room at this time of the year.

The carpets in the hallway were very dirty, they were in need of a good cleaning!

Another thing I would like to mention is that we asked at the reception to book a taxi to take us back to the airport, they confirmed it was booked but when the time came no taxi arrived... So they promptly asked a driver that happened to be sitting at the hotel lobby to drive us to the airport. He did not look like a taxi driver at all, he was wearing a suit and had a VERY expensive car... He charged us more than a normal taxi fare and said he only had a 500 euros note so couldn't give us any change when we gave him a 50 euro note to pay for a 30 euro fare. This really sounded like a scam... So be aware!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the river
