Upsides: The hotel is in a great location. Loads of restaurants and bars nearby. Easy to take the tram from near hotel to convention center (Koln Messe). I believe the 1 and 9 trams take you right there in 5-10 mins but confirm with hotel. A good choice if you want to be in the center of town near shopping and restaurants. Eat and drink then walk to your hotel room. Easy!

Downsides: Horrible Internet. Literally unusable after 8pm. Couldn’t connect or send an email. Not a good hotel if you need internet for business. In the evening I needed to do business on my computer with the office back in the states. The internet made it extremely difficult. On the last day of my stay, someone at the front desk suggested I try the public Wifi available for free in the city center. Wish they would have suggested this earlier. It worked OK although you only get 1 hour wifi at a time. Then you have to re-sign in.

Warning if your room is in the front of the hotel facing the plaza. It's very loud because of all the bars and restaurants. Noise went on until late at night. Perhaps the hotel should consider new windows that keep noise out. Bring ear plugs! The window coverings are very thin and let all the light come through early in the morning so hard to sleep in if your sensitive to light in the morning. No telephones in the room. If you need something from the front desk, walk down stairs.

Summary: Good enough hotel if you get a reasonable price and you want to step out the hotel and walk to shopping, restaurants, and bars in city center. But be prepared for noise if you face the plaza. Not ideal for the business traveler if you require good internet connection.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the plaza. The windows are thin and lots of noise from the bars and restaurants comes through at night.

The location is really excelent: just in the city centre. My room was large. The bathroom seems to be recently renovated and it was very good. The forniture was a bit old. The room was clean and the people at the reception very kind. As a negative aspect, I booked the room using Booking and the price they gave me did not included local taxes

This hotel is just great...heated bathroom floors, good bed and an overall modern and fancy design. Its very central as well so you have everything you need minutes away.Made our weekend in koln feel like home!

Room Tip: There is a bit of light in the morning.A sleeping mask would help .

Super location if you want to be bang in the middle of things. The hotel is above a restaurant so there is some noise from that and also from the street. The staff were polite but not particularly helpful. Our room was cold on arrival - they hadn't put the heating on. Rooms were clean and adequate. Breakfast was poor - the scrambled egg was not edible and the selection of fresh fruit was very poor. Also the dining room (where you have breakfast) was freezing cold. We ate breakfast outside the hotel for the rest of the trip.

Room Tip: Room 15 on 4th floor has great view of the square but there is some noise.

My wife and I enjoyed a 3 night stay in Germany, spending 2 nights at this very well located hotel. Some nice typical German pubs within a few steps of the entrance. Only a short walk to the Railway Station, the Padlock Bridge and the Dom. Enjoyed sitting outside the Hotel with heaters, blankets a Beer and a nice Pizza. The rooms are basic but clean and quiet. Small but modern shower/toilet en-suite. The breakfasts which weren't cheap were disappointing. Continental and freshly made egg variations were good but the Bacon & Sausages were cold (even though kept in an enclosed Bain Marie food warmer dish). Both mornings the hot water for cups of tea was empty. Service slow. However we shall return. Cologne is nice.
