The open air gondola cabs are a lot of fun as you traverse the vast vineyard. It doesn't look like you are climbing very high but once you reach the monument you have a stellar view of the Rhine valley and the hills beyond. The monument is massive and impressive. There are a couple of restaurants where you can grab a meal or glass of wine. We walked back to Rudesheim, which was very pleasant.

Starts with a tram ride over the vineyards to the top of the hill where the statue is. Excellent views of the river and Rhine valley.

it's not just about the monument, which is pretty huge. it's the view and total experience. it's worth a trip up - the view from the cable car is awesome and there is a nice forest walk you can take once you're up there too. i was a week too early for the eagle sanctuary but i imagine it would be nice bonus for any animals lovers. there's also a cafe there.

The Niederwald Monument is worth the time. The monument itself is magnificent but the views of the Rhein valley are outstanding. We were not able to take the cable car as it was closed when we visited but we were able to drive to the monument without trouble. I can only imagine how wonderful the cable car ride is. There is a restaurant and toilets just a short walk from the monument as well as lovely temple. Find a bench, sit, relax and take in the views.
