“Really good hotel with friendly staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2012

I've stayed here three times now and really like this hotel. Easy to get to with bus route 37 from Frankfurt Hbf, every 10 mins at peak times or 30 mins until about 1am. The rooms are standard HIEx layout and with being a Platinum member I always get one of the Rewards rooms on the 5th floor.

The only problem I have had is depending which side of the hotel your room is, there can be a nightclub very close by which goes on all through the night till 10am the next morning!! It doesn't wake me up but it has woke up my friends; I'm surprised the nightclub is even allowed to run in a residential area like this but there you go!

The staff are very helpful and in my experience they always go out of their way to make sure everything is ok. This is one of the main reasons I keep going back here as you are made to feel welcome and valued as a customer, nothing seems too much trouble when I ask. There is a bar which is well used late in the evenings, and breakfast is also good with a wide range of items to choose from.

So to summarise, this is a great hotel which is always my first choice when staying in Frankfurt!

Good budget property. Rooms clean staff very friendly. Hotel one block from the Main river but situated in the middle of very industrial area not that conducive to walking anywhere. It's a misnomer to identify it with the Messe Frankfurt as its a 15 min Taxi ride.

Dear guests,

Many thanks for your open feedback!
We are happy to read that you liked staying with us, although the location was not as expected.

Indeed a 15 minutes taxi ride to the Messe Frankfurt is uncommon, however, this can happen with heavy traffic and using the entrances which are more remotely located to the hotel. Messe Frankfurt is one of the largest exhibition centres in the world and simply huge. Entrances near Hall 3 (Entrance East) and at Hall 11 (Portalhaus) are the quickest to reach, whereas Galleria entrance (Hall 10) is on the opposite side of the buildings.

Best regards from Frankfurt

I stayed here for 3 days recently using Priority Club points (it was on the point breaks list so it was only 5000 points) because they were trade fair days at Messe. I strive to spend less than 175 EUR per night even when travelling for business in Europe so I just bought the points to pay for my stay. Fortunately the timing of the point breaks promotion at this hotel and my trip worked out perfectly so I could avoid the ~250EUR minimum nightly charge, which is very high for a HI Express. I wasn't doing any business at Messe but I don't think the hotel is even very convenient for attending an exhibition at Messe despite the name. There is a hotel shuttle to Messe but they only run a few one-way trips in the mornings with very limited seating. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel but it is quite a walk to the nearest S-Bahn station. (Galluswarte)

All of my previous IHG hotel stays were at Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza and the occasional HI, so I had no idea what to expect from a HI Express. Check-in was quite simple and I was given a drink coupon for the hotel bar for being a Priority Club Gold member, which is more than you get at some properties. The room was quite small and being an award room it was in a pretty bad location looking out on the train tracks. Fortunately I think they were giving everyone in the hotel free (wired) in-room Internet because of the inflated prices during the period.

The room decor was very spartan, with pretty much just a bed, desk, chair, closet and lighting. The bathroom was similar with only a shower, sink and a toilet hidden in a corner between the shower and the door. The bathroom was very disappointing to me because while it's the part of the hotel room you spend the least amount of time in, it's very important to me to feel comfortable in the bathroom I'm using. The sink area was very small with almost no counter space and it just looked exceptionally cheap. The only toiletries provided were wall-mounted dispensers for hand soap and shower gel/shampoo. The shower gel was actually a 2-in-1 product along with the shampoo. I think they could have at least had separate shower gel and shampoo dispensers.

Room comfort was fine and the free breakfast was enough for breakfast. All the essentials like eggs, ham/sausage, fruit and a few different types of juice were available. The staff working in the breakfast area were very nice and I enjoyed the casual atmosphere. There is no in-room dining or on-site restaurant so you have to go to an outside restaurant unless you want to eat what looked like frozen pizzas from the hotel bar. This wouldn't be a really big issue normally but the hotel is in a sort of industrial area so you have to either take a bus or walk to near Galluswarte to find a restaurant. (The "nearby" restaurants they recommend in the hotel literature are in that area)

Overall I'd say that it was a very good 15000 points spent. I got 800 EUR value for what would normally be one night at a 100 USD HI Express so I couldn't really complain. I don't think I will be staying at HI Express anymore though unless this sort of opportunity presents itself again; the staff seem overworked (therefore somewhat aloof), the amenities were even fewer than I expected and in the case of this hotel the location wasn't good either. If the rate is 50 EUR per night, I'd say that's a fair price but at 250+ EUR during trade fair times I'd rather spend the money on a better hotel.

Dear guests,

Congratulations for having been able to book the Priority Club Rewards programme special offer for the Holiday Inn Express Frankfurt Messe, which was only 1/4 of the points normally need to be redeemed.

We are happy that you had a good stay, although the hotel product was not as expected, e.g. room size. The Holiday Inn Express product is standardized and must meet minimum requirements for this hotel brand. We understand that other regions might offer larger room sizes. Compared to other hotel brands, Holiday Inn Express rooms are overall larger than comparable economy hotel branded rooms.

Thanks for your loyalty!

Kind regards

A good budget hotel. Clean and helpful staff and accessible to the nearest rail station Hauptbanhof. A bus stop bang opposite, you can slip in/out quickly. The breakfast is decent. The internet at the lobby is okay. At room it costs you 15 euros for 24 hrs...could have been cheaper. Prices during non exhibition time is very attractive but book early. Rates fluctuate highly..from 24Euros per night to 48 Euros and more. Bus 37 works well and takes the main station in 10 minutes. However do note, there are no nearby shops around if you want a quick bite. The hotel kitchen is the only option. Hauptbanhof ofcourse has lots of options and available late till night.

Room Tip: Take rooms near the lift area if you have large lugguage items. It can take you a while dragging the...

I found this hotel more convenient than staying out near the airport and with the frequent service on the #37 bus from the Hauptbanhof, I think it is actually easier to get to than some of the hotels around the Hauptbanhof area.

I only had gold status with Priority Club at the time so was grateful for the complimentary drink at the bar and also discovered that my room on the first floor was in excellent signal range of the free wiFi.

The breakfast was all I needed for a good start to the day and generally found that my room had been excellently serviced when I came back.
