“Harbor is here.”
Reviewed 22 February 2012

It is a nice harbor.I got on the touristic bus here and took a big trip in Hamburg. For Hardrock fans,it is easy to reach the Cafe and shop.Of course, you can come on board a ship here.I stood on a bridge and took a look at the floating ice in the river. It was foggy in the morning, air was quite fresh. There was a old ship for rent, you can see the picture,it was a nice ship. The transportaiotn is organized very well. From HPT to airport,S1 will be a good choice, get off the train and move to the first 3 cabins of the train at the last 2 staition.Otherwise you are going to another place.

“Oh blow ye winds hi-ho ...”
Reviewed 4 February 2012

You can't visit Hamburg and NOT see the port! Not only is it one of the major ports in the world as far as turnover goes, it is also spread over an incredible acreage. What makes it somewhat special is that it's actually on a river, almost 70 miles from the sea. The port is really the heart and soul of Hamburg - without it, Hamburg wouldn't be what it is. See the different basins and myriad berths, admire the monstrous containerships and breakbulk vessels; be awed by the towering, moutainous stacks of containers from all over the world; the busy container cranes buzzing to and fro, the tall and gangly gantry cranes lifting containers off at speed ... it seems a world of giants. You can stroll along the quays or take a habor cruise - and unforgettable experience. Every seaman shanty you've ever heard will come to mind at the sights - yo might even get to see one of the old clippers with the tall masts. Needless to say, all along the areas accessible to the general public, you can get snacks and drinks.

“The Harbor”
Reviewed 16 January 2012

It is difficult to describe the beauty of the Harbor of Hamburg. Take a ferry ride to really experience it---you won't be disappointed! I have never really been "into" ships or boats or anything connected to such things, and I absolutely loved the harbor! It is positively beautiful and surprisingly romantic...and when you step off of the ferry, take time to stroll along the wharf. You will find many inexpensive places to get a quick cup of coffee or a sandwhich. I would recommend the Nordsee Restaurant.

“If you miss the harbour, why go to Hamburg”
Reviewed 13 January 2012

Hamburg was a harbour town throughout all its history, in mediavel times it was one the biggest towns in the Hanse, Störtecker lost his head here and trading via ship is THE lifeline of Hamburg until today.

Even though there are not that many active shipyards left, the whole harbour area with the ships and the hustle and bustlle of literally millions of tons of goods moving out more or less each day is someting to admire and get small in comparsion next to it.

You have a good impression by car taking the A 7 from the south and deverting via the Köhlbrandbrücke to see the vastness of this area (for comparison, take the whole of Rothenburg ob der Tauber and it would not even fill one harbour basin) but the best way to enjoy it and be impressed is via a small boat with a "Hafenrundfahrt" which will also give you aload of information about what is going on.

Take one that starts at the Landungsbrücken but you can also take the normal boats (like a tram) to have a first view.
