If you are seeking a real 5 stars hotel in Berlin, the "Hotel de Rome" should not be your choice.
If you want your room to be made, you have someday to ask it twice. The night service ? Forget about it. We stayed 5 days : the night service was not even made once.
You travel with children ? Ok, they can guarantee you a connecting room, and that is a good thing. But everything in that mather stops here.
As the front door, the welcome your receive each time you walk in is not the one you can expect in a 5 stars hotel.
Some of the rooms you can rent are like a basketball hall : high ceiling, but every sound is like a nasty noise in a cathedral. Some parts of the hotel seem not to be have cleaned the last two weeks. It is a real shame.
You may think that these kinds of "stuff" are not a problem for you. You are the judge, but keep in mind that you are supposed to be in a 5 stars hotel.
It was clear in my mind that you can just not compare a London 5 stars with a Berlin 5 stars hotel, but here the difference is just too big not to tell it.
Try to eat at the hotel restaurant, the "Parioli", and you will find out what kind of hotel you are staying in. The deco is nice but... If like eating out in fast food, this restaurant can be for you, except for the bill. We were there with a family of 3, and by paying 350 Euro, we expected to have some quality food. Forget it at the Parioli. I don't want to describe here the quality of the food, it was so awful.
My advice here is simple : avoid booking a room in that hotel. Continue to browse through the tripadvisor website to find a better one. I will never book this hotel once again, but I will also never book a hotel with the same brand in the rest of the world.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Hotel de Rome is located on Bebelplatz, off Unter den Linden. It is a conversion of an existing building constructed in 1889 by architect Ludwig Heim (appointed master builder of the government), which housed the head office of Dresdner Bank until 1945. This is one of the few luxury hotels in Berlin located in an original building making use of its full architectural splendour and thereby offering guests an authentic Berlin experience. The ornate and classical design of the original building has been given a contemporary twist by designer Tommaso Ziffer, who also designed the Hotel de Russie in Rome. Tommaso Ziffer has been assisted by architects Aukett + Heese with Olga Polizzi and her design team at Rocco Forte Hotels. ... more less
