“If you expect a real 5* hotel in Berlin, avoid this one”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2012

If you are seeking a real 5 stars hotel in Berlin, the "Hotel de Rome" should not be your choice.

If you want your room to be made, you have someday to ask it twice. The night service ? Forget about it. We stayed 5 days : the night service was not even made once.

You travel with children ? Ok, they can guarantee you a connecting room, and that is a good thing. But everything in that mather stops here.

As the front door, the welcome your receive each time you walk in is not the one you can expect in a 5 stars hotel.

Some of the rooms you can rent are like a basketball hall : high ceiling, but every sound is like a nasty noise in a cathedral.

Some parts of the hotel seem not to be have cleaned the last two weeks. It is a real shame.

You may think that these kinds of "stuff" are not a problem for you. You are the judge, but keep in mind that you are supposed to be in a 5 stars hotel.

It was clear in my mind that you can just not compare a London 5 stars with a Berlin 5 stars hotel, but here the difference is just too big not to tell it.

Try to eat at the hotel restaurant, the "Parioli", and you will find out what kind of hotel you are staying in. The deco is nice but... If like eating out in fast food, this restaurant can be for you, except for the bill. We were there with a family of 3, and by paying 350 Euro, we expected to have some quality food. Forget it at the Parioli. I don't want to describe here the quality of the food, it was so awful.

My advice here is simple : avoid booking a room in that hotel. Continue to browse through the tripadvisor website to find a better one. I will never book this hotel once again, but I will also never book a hotel with the same brand in the rest of the world.

This hotel is spectacular from the lobby and the service is unbeatable. The only thing that let it down was the high priced internet and the lack of quality outfitting in the bedroom. Aside from that this was a very pleasant business trip to Berlin. The location is great, walking distance to restaurants and all my meetings. Seriously fantastic staff - very helpful. The advertised price however was far too expensive - we had a corporate discount which made it reasonable.

Overall, a very good quality product, typical of the Rocco Forte group.

The rooms here can feel a bit weird, given that this building used to house a bank (i.e., very, very high ceilings), but apart from that, it's pretty perfect. The room was spacious, furnishings were of good quality, the bathroom was big and shiny and had everything we needed. Was very happy with the finishings in general. Can't beat large windows looking over the church on Bebelplatz.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff were helpful, but perhaps a little more training might not go amiss. They felt a little inexperienced and some requests would take ages to be dealt with. But they were always polite and chatty.

The pool is nice - it occupies what used to be the bank's vault. And they have swimsuits for guests to borrow. (Who packs a swimsuit for a city break?)

The location is directly onto Bebelplatz (famous for the book burnings in the 1930s) and Gendarmenmarkt is around the corner (where there was a christmas market when we visited). Unter den Linden (shopping street, and main thoroughfare leading to many sights, including museums) is just across the square.

The Hotel is situation in the very heart of the historical part of Berlin. It is very clean, quiet and comfortable.
The staff at the reception gave us a warm Welcome and followed all the 5 star Hotel standards.
Good variety of food at the breakfast and very friendly and smiling service.
Also we forgot our wallet with money and all the credit cards an the safe box in the room. We were contacted immediately.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable.

The only disappointment is absence of free Wi-Fi.

Thank you!

I stayed in hotel de Rome on a business trip to Berlin , I was overwhelmed by the treatment received at the entrance from the doormen to the reception staff. Areal welcome and VIP treat. The rooms definitely at the excellent level by any measure .
The hotel is located in the former east Berlin , after 20 years from united you can feel that this area has really done in an extraordinary style keeping all the arts and putting the 21st century technology and way of life ( very amazing )
The hotel is walking distance from the shopping area and resturants
As the way we have been welcomed and treated in the hotel de Rome , we decided to return to the same hotel at the end of our tour ( really worth )
Many thanks to Ms Wolfs ( on duty manager ) who made our return possible although it was almost fully booked , wish to have similar person in every hotel I stay in.
