“Excellent Hotel and Location!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2012

I was here for a week and it was excellent. The hotel is centrally located and has great bars behind it, as well as great restaurants and coffee shops around. It is adjacent to the Brandenburg gate and the Jewish Memorial. There is an awesome night club near the hotel (50m from the back entrance) with cheap entrance (5 Euro). There are always taxi's available. There is free wifi available and the service is excellent. During the time I was there, the president of Singapore had also been staying here.

All in all a great stay!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces out towards the Brandenburg Gate.

My fiancée booked this hotel as part of a surprise birthday treat for me. We have been fortunate enough to stay in some modern 5* hotels across the world, but this was probably our first stay in something steeped in history and classical luxury.

It exceeded all of our expectations by an absolute country mile.

The service was like nothing we have ever experienced before, from the moment we arrived at the hotel, we didn’t have to lift a finger. As it was my birthday, we were given a complimentary upgrade, and on arriving in the room, there was also a fantastic handmade cake waiting for me.

The room was massive, and incredibly tastefully decorated with antique furnishings. The bathroom was gorgeous; it really felt like we were living in luxury. The pillow menu was larger than most pubs food menu, and this paved the way for the most fantastic night’s sleep. It was really difficult to leave the room for the evening as it was so opulent, but as the Christmas markets were in full flourish, the temptation of a foot long bratwurst was too much to resist!

When we awoke in the morning, I went outside to retrieve our freshly polished shoes, all part of the complimentary service. Hanging from the door was a Christmas stocking, filled with fruit, nuts, marzipan, and some homemade biscuits… what a glorious touch this was.

I recommend sitting in the downstairs area and having some afternoon tea. We did this twice, firstly to relax in the plush surroundings, and secondly to people watch. It was fantastic looking at all the other guests, most of whom looked like Russian or American oil tycoons. What struck us the most is that these people (who have more money than they can ever spend) were utterly nonplussed by the surroundings, it was customary to them. I’d take my life any day over that, it was great to enjoy such luxury as a rare treat!

We could see the Brandenburg Gate from our hotel window, and being able to see one of Europe’s iconic landmarks from our lounge area felt like a real privilege.

Having only been at this hotel at Christmas, of course I have no base for comparison, but I can thoroughly recommend going in December. The decorations gave the foyer such a warm and cosy feeling , and we just have the most wonderful memories of this stay.

I stayed in freezing temperatures in the hotel and absolutely loved it. The rooms were very nice and spacious and well equipped. The lobby bar was also impressive. The service level was adequate though they did goof up our check in since they misplaced our reservation.

Hotel Adlon has been elected as the best hotel in Europe several times, and I completely agree, if you are going on a city holiday.

The hotel was opened the first time in 1907, and it was the place where kings, queens, presidents and other men and women of the elite were to stay. In 1945, the hotel practically burned to the ground, and not until after the fall of the Berlin Wall was the hotel rebuilt, brick by brick, precisely identical to the original hotel.

In 1997, the hotel was reopened, and it is still the men and women of the elite that visit the place, and I believe I have heard that they even have a picture of our Queen in one of the rooms, and this is in fact the hotel that our Queen and Prince Consort stay at when they are in Berlin.

The hotel has a lovely spa, and I recommend bringing your girlfriend for a spa weekend, where you can get several good offers, incl. dinner, champagne and other pampering.

Hotel Adlon is not cheap, but you really feel that every Euro is well-spent, the service is German at its best and ”ordnung muss sein” prevails here in a great way..

Everything about the Adlon is exceptional from the standard of the bedrooms to restaurant and casual dining. The reception desk is staffed particularly well and the standard of support for guests is outstanding. Dined in the ground floor restaurant overlooking Brandenburg Gate - amazing service, food and views. I can think of few hotels that can offer the type of all round service that the Adlon does. I cannot wait to return. Would like to try the Spa next time and generally take more time out to actually enjoy all the hotel facilities. Amazing.

Room Tip: Upgrade to one of the luxury rooms if you can and ask for a room overlooking Brandenburg Gate or Unt...
