“Wonderful hotel”
Reviewed 30 May 2012

The Regent Hotel is a wonderful luxury hotel at a great price---a real luxury value. The service is great. The breakfast buffet wonderful---granola's of all types with dried real fruit. There is a nice small gym and you can arrange massages. The rooms are lovely and the location near Unter den Linden and the shopping and museums of Mitte can't be beat---and nice to be a bit off Unter den Linden. The welcome was truly wonderful when I arrived and the staff very attentive. I thought I had lost something in the laundry--then realized I had made a mistake and the staff couldn't have been lovelier.

My wife and I stayed at the Regent Hotel Berlin (RHB) for 6 nights in May 2012. It was a perfect hotel experience.

The RHB is located in a convenient part of town, close to the U2 and the U6, a 10 minute walk to the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, and other historical and cultural sites. It’s a modern building that’s not very charming on the exterior, but the interior is well designed, the lobby is elegant, there are plenty of elevators, and the front desk staff are superb (see below).

Our 7th floor room had a balcony (about 3’ deep x 15’ wide) with sliding glass doors, and although it overlooked the building across the street, when we stepped out onto it, the dome and gilded statue of the church on Gendarmenmarkt Square was off to the right. The room was about 15’ x 18’ with plenty of drawers, shelving in the closets and loads of hangers and hanging space. The elegant bathroom was approximately 14’ x 12’ with a French door entrance. There was a marble floor, separate tub and marble stall shower, a toilet room, a huge vanity with loads of storage space for toiletries. It was undoubtedly one of the nicest bathrooms I’ve seen in a larger hotel. The room’s a/c system had its own thermostat and worked beautifully. A 32-38 inch flat screen and DVD player are tucked away in a closed unit with a chest of drawers below, and there was an additional easy chair and hassock, and a desk and chair.

The room was unusual because there were no signs of wear of any kind. The furniture was clean, the wall-to-wall carpeting was unsoiled, and there were no chips on the corners of walls.

Fresh fruit was delivered to the room daily along with 2 chocolates and a half-liter bottle of mineral water. A small vase containing a few fresh was always in the room.

Breakfast was included in our room rate (we had a package) at RHB and it was fantastic. It was served in the 2 star Michelin restaurant on the street-level of the hotel. There was a cold buffet (6-8 cereals, fresh and dried fruit, yogurt, rolls, etc) and a basket of rolls and a plate of meat and cheese was placed on the table as well. The wait staff took orders for juice, a variety of coffees, and other drinks, and you were able to order 6-8 hot dishes from a menu. The food and service were superb.

This was a birthday celebration for me, and my wife managed to let the RHB’s manager know about it advance. He greeted us when we arrived and one of his assistances appeared when we checked out. It made staying in a large facility much more personal and I was extremely appreciative.

One final note that typifies the kind of treatment we received at RHB:
When we took a cab from the airport to the hotel, my wife accidently dropped her passport in the cab. (After travelling for 12 hours, these things can happen.) We realized the problem while checking in. The front desk staff couldn’t have been more comforting. One of the bellmen checked the sidewalk where the cab had dropped us off. The women at the front desk assured us that when this had happened in the past, passports have usually been returned. (We didn’t have a receipt so we couldn’t identify the driver.) We immediately went to the police station and reported the missing passport.

The front desk suggested that we wait until the following day before we went to the American embassy to file a report. They were right. About five hours after we arrived, the cab driver phoned the hotel, said he had found the Passport, and would deliver it to the hotel the following morning. And he did!

We highly recommend the Regent Berlin Hotel. The room, the staff, the overall experience was superb. It proved to us that larger hotels can succeed despite their size.

While the old fashioned decor may not be to everyone's taste, the location, comfort and helpful staff in this hotel make it a perfect place to stay in Berlin. Well-located close to Gendarmenmarkt and its many outdoor eating areas, the hotel is also within easy walking distance of Museum Insel and the Brandenberg Gate and other attactions at the western end of Unter den Linden. The cleaning regime this hotel is superb! Would definitely stay there again.

Perfect experience! A true luxury hotel that knows how to spoil guests!
To start, perfect location right in front of the gourgeous Gendarmenmarkt and within walking distance of most Berlin's tourist cites.
We booked a very spacious twin room. Bed was incredible, flat screen tv, nice armchair and good office desk. Huge marble floor bathroom, with separate room for toilet and separate shower (this is my only critique as it was really hard getting adequate temperature on the shower and it would not be maintained for long) and bathtub. Amenities from L'occitane was also a plus!

The hotel also hosts a 2 stars Michelin restaurant that is simply incredible and has a fixed price lunch menu that is a real value! Breakfast was not included and frankly I don't think it was worth the 35 Euros per person. If you face yourself in the same situation, there are pleanty of nice places to have breakfast around the corner for half or even less the price. Also, if you are an early bird, they offer complimentary continental breakfast on the reception, this includes some choices of pastry and a Nespresso machine. Speaking of complimentary, they also have an afternoon tea in the reception with a choice of cakes and pastry that I think were also complimentary. This is what been spoiled feels like!

I really recommend this hotel, but keep in mind that it was not really designed for me! It's an old school luxury hotel, very posh and all but not a modern hotel! Since I was travelling with my mom, this was excellent! But if I was to return by myself or with friends to Berlin I would probably stay somewhere else a bit more hip! Also keep in mind that Berlin is one of the hippest cities worldwide!

Dear rafaeleberhardt,

it was great having you and your mom as our guests. And we do appreciate your review for our "old school luxury hotel" - we did like that. You are right, there is not really something fancy or hip at the Regent Berlin. All the more surprising is that we found a new satisfied guest in you due to being at your service the way we love it, simply Regent style. Thank you.

Your remarks on the pricing in our 2 Michelin starred restaurant "Fischers Fritz" about the complimentary early bird breakfast wagon, the à la carte breakfast itself, the "real value" lunch as well as the à la carte dinner are taken into consideration. From our point of view it is quite an accomplished combination.

We may welcome you again at the Regent when you will return to Berlin as "one of the hippest cities worldwide" and of course when you need a place to stay that feels like home away from home...

With kind regards,

Your team of the Regent Berlin

Very central location, convenient to a lot of nice restaurants, parks, squares in central Berlin.

Hotel is of very high quality, but more of an "old-school" feel in the rooms. Not bad, just less modern, with a more antiquidated feel.

Most of the staff around the premises are extremely helpful and pleasant.

The front desk staff were not that helpful or friendly. We had booked a room for 3 night (long weekend), and had confirmed a room with 1 king bed. When we checked in around 5pm on the Thursday night, we were told they had no rooms of that type available. While I found that strange (running out of king sized bed rooms at 5pm), I asked if they could let us know the next morning when others checked out if we could move to a different room. They said yes, but nobody called us about any availability the next morning. When we checked with them around 3pm, they said we were too late, all the king rooms had been taken. So overall, quite poor customer service from the front desk.

Other than the front desk / room type issue, everything else was perfect.

Would we go back? probably not, might choose a more modern feel hotel as that's what we usually go for.

Dear GeneandJuls,

thank you for staying at the Regent Berlin and taking the time to express your thoughts and experience about it here on tripadvisor. We are glad that mostly everything was to your satisfaction during your stay with us, even though you are usually choosing more modern feel hotels.

We would like to apologize very much for the inconvenience caused to you regarding your room assignment. Regarding our Regent TAO we are always highly concerned about our guests and do the best to meet and even exceed their expectations. It is with great regret that we haven´t met your expectations the last time and that our front desk staff did not react the right way. Please be assured that the experienced service is not at all our standard.

We do hope that we will have the chance to welcome you again at our "classic style" hotel and then for sure with a king size bed.

With kind regards,

Your team of the Regent Berlin
