“Great Egyptian collection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2012

The Neues Museum houses a great Egyptian collection, which is probably among the best in the world. The layout and setting of the museum are wonderful. Highly recommended.

“Nefertiti”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2012

The museum itself is a beautiful building, the icing on the cake was the fact they currently house the bust of Nefertiti.

“fascinating restoration”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2012

I mostly went here see the restoration work by Chipperfield. The audio guide was great ...each entry provided an overview of what each room contained plus details of what happened to the room during the bombing and how Chipperfield and co had gone about restoring it. I especially liked seeing two things: the two story South Dome (where the square base of the room transforms into a small round cupola at the ceiling...the walls are in brick and the shape from the square to the round is intriguing); the original cabinets in one of the rooms which miraculously weren't destroyed or even damaged...not even the glass or the internal fittings...

“Great artifacts”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 April 2012

This museum is great to visit if you are knowledgeable of Egyptian history and mythology. I only have a rudimentary knowledge and found many of the exhibits uninteresting. There is a room of sarcophogi, quite a bit of Egyptian artificats but with very little explanation. The audio guides only covered a few exhibits and discussed mostly the museum's restoration and where some of the artifacts were found. I found the prehistory exhibits interesting but some of the information to be inaccurate. There were exhibits on Greece, Rome, and a few other civilizations. This is a great museum to visit if you are very knowledgeable about the civilizations and just want to see the artifacts. It is not a great place to learn about the civilization. Signs are in English and German. Visitors can take photos.
