The Helig-Geist Spital church has a beautiful painted façade which helps prepare the visitor for the rich baroque interior that is quite overpowering. It is close by the museum and river so it is easily seen when visiting these. As it quite small it does not need a lot of time

Heilig-Geist Spitalkirche used to serve the old hospital in Füssen. The origional church was gothic and built in the 15th century. It was destroyed by fire in 1733.The church was rebuilt between 1748-49 in the Rococo style. The church is the most photographed church in the city due to the exterior facade which was painted by Joseph Joseph Walch in 1749 with colorful frescoes. The upper half show the Blessed Trinty whilst the lower half shows St Florian & St Christopher. The church used to be used weekly for the Holy Mass, but is now only used for Mass on Pentecost Monday which is a Holyday of Obligation and the Patronal feast. It is used for children's services at times and also for a few weddings.Inside the church above the main altar is a beautiful painting of Pentecost.with the tongues of fire coming down on the Apostles. There are two side altars, one dedicated to Our Blessed Lady and the other too St Joseph. In the centre of the church on the ceiling can be found a wonderful depiction of the 7 sacraments. To the side of the main altar on the left hand side one can view the balcony where the sick came from the hospital to attend the Holy Mass. Some beautiful statues of German saints as well as Stations of the Cross can also be found within this small church.Unfortunatly the Blessed Sacrament is no longer reserved in the church.

By doing the old town Fussen walk this is one of the features you will come across.
Hard to miss as a very colourfull exterior and sits right on the intersection near the bridge over the River Lech.
Nice inside, well worth spending some time there taking it all in .
Very interesting is it’s history, it is a church that has obviously looked after the sick and under privileged over the years which is very commendable, read about it on site .we enjoyed our visit.

Lovely church very much in the tradition of southern German Catholicism. Airy and bright, very ornate in places, it's worth a moment to poke your head in and look around.

A small church located in Fussen, you can not miss its colorful exterior.

Step inside and notice the very old collection box as well as the old vintage holy water container.

There is a sign on the side of the church explaining the church's history.

The Heilig-Geist-Spitalkirche is an especially beautiful place of worship, located in the middle old town the city Füssen, built in 1748 it's impressively colorful rococo, one of the most popular interest place in the city. The church is open every day from 8:30 to 18:00, free entrance !!

It might be trite but "small but perfectly formed" applies very nicely to this church. Many of the baroque churches we saw in Bavaria tried to cram decoration into every corner of the building. This one avoided that trap and not only because of its small size.
