Concerts every day of the week at 9pm, though popular or bigger name acts will sell out as the venue isn't big. There's a slight preference towards free jazz, so if that's not your thing then check the programme before turning up. You can get food there - basic German cuisine and pasta dishes. The seating can be hit and miss - head for the chairs in front of the stage to avoid your view being blocked behind a pillar.

We arrived late in Munich on a lads and dads trip, my son in law had booked us in as his father is a musician and for five euros we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening listening to the jam session. Drinks are not expensive and there is a really friendly atmosphere.

From quirky quintets to jazz standards, this place is consistently reliable and entertaining. For popular or visiting bands, book ahead as it can get quite cramped. There's plenty of food on offer there, so it's easy to grab something after work. A little on the pricey side for tickets, but a great treat for music lovers.

The Unterfahrt is a real Institution. Live music every day, national and international bands, a jam session every Sunday, excellent sound and acoustic, a Stainway piano. Friendly atmosphere, great staff.
And fosse real great music.

Every time I visit Munich, I have to visit the Unterfahrt at least once and usually several times per visit. If you are a jazz fan, or just a fan of good live music in an intimate setting, then this is the place to go. Especially check out the Sunday jam sessions if possible. There are great local musicians that always seem to make it a point to hang and play on the Sunday sessions. Service is always very good, drinks are not too expensive, the sound and view is great from every seat in the house. Being underground brings back images of the old European jazz clubs that grew up in unused bomb shelters from the war. Go early or make a reservation for the more popular shows as the club does tend to fill up quickly. Excellent spot and never have I been disappointed.
