We stayed at the Medicon Downtown Suites Tal 10 apartment for a week over Christmas 2010. This apartment is one of those, you get what you pay for places. The location is really very nice, about a minute from the Viktualienmarkt and about 2 minutes walking from the Glockenspiel and the pedestrian zone with all the shopping. One could take the S Bahn to the Marienplatz (Glockenspiel) and walk very easily. There is a REWE grocery store directly across the street from the apartment, so food and drink was EASILY obtained. Here is the deal, we had 2 families in the apartment and for the price could not have even been close to the location we were in if we had stayed in a hotel. Yousri (the apartment manager) was EXTREMELY nice and communicated very well with us as we were enroute, having flights canceled and then delayed, we were unable to get to the apartment until about 11:45pm. Yousri was not able to meet us, but generously made arrangements for someone to meet us at the Burger King directly next to the apartment entry. The bed in the back of the apartment, room with only one double bed, is metal and with many loose screws, the metal on metal was SUPER squeaky when sat upon and certainly when trying to move while sleeping. There were many light bulbs out, and the towels were really terrible - seriously rags, but when we sat back and considered the price we were getting the apartment at for the 2 families for the week, we decided that the expense to buy new light bulbs and towels for all 8 of us, that it was still worth it. We had the convenience of a small kitchen, we also bought 4 additional dinner plates, and it was fine. Was it a palace? Absolutely not, but was it a value for the location? Absolutely yes! Another really nice and sometimes overlooked advantage of this apartment, especially for those traveling for a week or more with young children, is the wash machine. It is a 'drip dry' situation (the drying rack is on the 'balcony' just out the window to the right after entry) but very workable. It is super quiet, located in the back of the building, and there are 2 bathrooms. The paint is a bit shabby, but by the time we brought a Christmas tree in, hung our decorations, got a table cloth for the table and settled it, it worked out just fine. Would I stay here again? IF we were going to be in Munich with another family for a week, maybe so. So when I say below that I would recommend this apartment to a friend, I would do it as long as they know this information ahead of time so that the expectations are set appropriately.
