Lake Konigssee is the highest lake in Germany and is in a National Park created in 1978. It is protected and preserved from private boating and only electric motors are allowed. The boat company runs 40 minute trips to St. Bartholomew about 2/3s down the lake from Konigssee. The boat is window-enclosed and heated for the winter. There is a small chapel and restaurant in addition to spectacular views of the lake and mountains. From Salzburg: Take Bus No. 840 (starts at the main station with stops in town) to Berchtesgaden Hauptbahnhof for 9.5 Euros for a day ticket for all travel. Then take Bus No. 841 to Königssee. The lake cruise costs 13.3 euros
