Probally the best zoo I have ever been to. You have Botanical gardens, Aquarium and a zoo. The animals are out in a more natural enviroment. Just a really huge, great zoo.

I went with my wife and 5 yrs boy, it was a great day, this place has an amazing botanical garden with the most beautiful followers ever, a full zoo (except for the Lion) and lovely green areas, we made a small picnic that my boy loved, then he played at the children ground with slides and swings till the place closed, the restaurant also has really good food.

Having a year's membership I have visited Wilhelma hundreds of times. It's always nice to visit my old "friends" whether they are plants or animals. No matter how much I love them, my favorite thing about Wilhelma is the setting, being a former palace with Moorish architecture. I try to be the first visitor in the morning so I can see the animals acting in interesting ways which they usually quit doing if people are watching, and many of the animals recognize me.

Wilhelma is Europe's largest combination zoo-botanical garden and also Germany's second-most attended zoo after the main zoo in Berlin.

For plants, there are many interesting greenhouses with different collections in them, and animals are usually interspersed with them. The sequoia grove is lovely, and there are other outdoor plants also. The world's largest flower, the 3 meter high Titanwurst "La Diva" has bloomed several times now.

Besides the mammals, there are lots of birds, an aquarium, reptiles and ampibians, and an insect house. The orphange for gorilla babies abandoned by their mothers is interesting when there are some which there are now. The Amazon house is lovely. Then there are also the wild animals that call Wilhelma home, such as the hares, squirrels, storks, and herons. The wild parrots are particularly interesting as they fly about calling to each other, especially in the winter with snow on the ground! And it's always interesting to see people riding the elephants about the zoo which you can do by prearrangement and a large fee.

Wilhelma is an enjoyable way to spend a pleasant hour or a whole day, any time of the year or in any weather as there is plenty to see indoors and out.

Nice place to visit, but the animals are in relatively small enclosures.

This is a really great Zoo and we have been to lots of them all over the world. Beware that it is very hilly and drawn out landscape- not stroller friendly. The gardens and ponds around the botanical areas are quiet, well kept and great for a picnic. Nice variety of animals.
