We had dinner at another Michelin One Star...Schwarz, Das Restaurant. Seven sublime courses accompanied by seven varieties of regional schnapps and only one bottle of wine!

We started dinner a 7:00 and had the final course at 1:00 am. Our first 6 hour dinner EVER! No DUI on the drive home!

This justifieably michelin-stared restaurant is located in the small & lovely town of Heidelberg and is one of our alltime favourite gourmet-restaraurants. We have been there several times over last years; it has usually been a great experience, with some minor scarcities some time ago (last year). Lately, it is really back to its height with the new chef Andrè Gödde and the always knowlesgable and charming Sommelier Christophe Gamblin. Encompassing traditional french style coocking with some molecular cuisine (which is usually not our favourite) is just perfect. As is the view over the old part of Heideleberg, the castle, and the Neckar and Rhine valley.

Food: The 7 course menue is exellent for about 120€ p.p.
Breverages: Good wine list & always excellent advice of Mr Gamblin. (Try his suggestions).
Service: Currently excellent, decent, and attentive with the ability to adapt to the guests' personal attitudes.
Atmosphere:Top flor (12th, we guess) Modern style glass and steel building; still cosy with perfect view.
Coist-performance-ratio: Appropriated & Fair. Expect to pay about 320€ for two for a 7-course meal, good wine, apereftive and some water.

Conclusion: Go there!

I had the pleasure of eating at 'Schwarz' with a client. It is a modern, stylish restaurant on top of the Heidelberg building. All glass windows with nice views over the city and the castle (somewhat in the distance). The service is very friendly and professional. The wine recommendations are spot on. The food is, as you would imagine, very creative with high quality products. Especially the deconstructed Maultasche (Swabian ravioli) is a joy to eat. This all comes at a price but you would expect it here anyway. Back for more.

We had dinner on Valentine’s Day at Schwarz Das Restaurant. The restaurant is located on the top floor of Print Media Academy very close to the Main Train Station of Heidelberg. The restaurant has a commanding and beautiful view of the city. Since it was Valentine’s Day, we made reservations in advance. Upon arrival we were promptly greeted by a hostess who checked our name off the reservation list and escorted us to an elevator that brought us up to the restaurant. Walking into the restaurant, we were greeted by another hostess who took our coats and showed us to our table. Absolutely every table in the restaurant was occupied on this night so we felt fortunate about the reservation. The Menu for Valentines consisted of two fixed price menu’s. The five course menu was 65 euros and came with Veal, the 7 course menu was 95 Euros and came with a beef filet. We selected one of each for variety so we could split. The food was excellent and came out cooked to perfection. Between some of the courses were amuse bouches from the kitchen that gave the meal a special feel. The one main adjustment that must be made is is regarding the wine. The wine list had a huge number of German wines but had a relatively small number of Italian/ French wines compared with other high-class restaurants in Europe. The sommelier also seemed very over worked which made wine service slower. Perhaps, all of the wine refills should be handled by the other waitstaff which would allow the sommelier the latitude to focus on wine selection, wine tasting, and first pour. For the size of restaurant one person cannot be the only person who handles every wine related task. It is also concerning that the wine service theme seems to be consistently brought up in reviews. The restaurant should read these reviews and improve on this topic. We will definitely return to try another meal, perhaps a la carte. Overall excellent food/ dining experience.
