After a lovely drive through the Black Forest area, we decided to check out the cafe famously known for its original Black Forest cake. The cafe was not busy when we were there. The lady who took our order was alright I guess -- (you order and it is brought to a table of your choice and you pay before you leave). We ordered tea, coffee and two slices of the black forest. . You could smell the alcohol fumes coming off the cake -- so we tucked right in. The cake was nice, a whole lot of cream with a crispy bottom layer. Even the chocolate cherries were steeped in alcohol. While it was pretty nice, I would not say it was the best we've ever had. However, as we were there in Winter with snow all around us, being in the cafe with our hot drinks and boozy cake, it seemed just right.
We didn't try anything else, paid up and left.
For us, it was nice to be in the Black Forest area and we could not be here and not come try this cafe.
If you are in this general location, give the cafe/cake a try. For us, it was a 'been there, done that' type of visit.
We had an amazing black forest cake in downtown Stuttgart with the right amounts of everything, so better is out there. Just saying..
