I liked the Hotel Merkur not only for its convenient location in the heart of Baden-Baden, but also because it was quiet, clean and had a really nice staff. I even got a rebate on parking. Nice touch!

Great service and wonderful restaurant in the hotel - breakfast included with nightly rate. Hotel is situated on a quiet sidestreet in the heart of Baden-Baden and is close to the baths as well. They have parking at the hotel which is convenient if traveling by car. Clean and beautifully appointed room with plenty of space.

Excellent location to the baths - less than 10 minutes by foot. Room had all that was necessary, albeit very small. The bathroom door wasn't able to open fully without hitting the toilet. Decor was modern and comfortable. Staff was excellent, allowed us to keep our car in the lot a few hours longer in order to get one more spa experience under our belts. Breakfast good, and worth price in expensive Baden-Baden.

Nice comfortable room. Even had America tv channels :).Comfy bed and nice shower, heated towel rack. Requested coffee in our room and was sent up in seconds, hot and with a nice pot and cups. Breakfast was fine, normal euro breakfast. Was a short walk to center of town. Dress to impress....was a bit fancier than we expected throughout the city.

To get to the hotel when you arrive from departures (Baden Baden airpark) head for a sign saying bus and you will be able to get a single ticket to Baden Baden 2.90 Euro. The 205 bus stop is right outside with a bus every 1 hour. If you get off at Leopoldplatz and then head left towards a park area keep walking and the merkur hotel is off to the street with a white linen clothes shop on the corner.

Arrived at the hotel early and the room we were told our room would not be available until 2pm. We didn't mind too much as they offered to store our bag until that time. We walked around to explore the town. If you head to the river and go left you can find yourself in the rose garden sadly they were not in bloom when we went but I can imagine it would look lovely in the summer time.

We had booked the superior room, very modern looking basically looks just like the photos on the website. I had booked the room through the hotel and were pleased to find bath robes and tea making facilities. The room was warm as you can adjust the radiator heating to whatever feels comfortable. The shower we had was a drench one which I absolutely loved (there is a side attachment as well). The bathroom did have towels, flannels and hand towels.

The room was always spotless and the beds were very comfortable. The telly has a couple of English channels, CNN, BBC World and a sky movies channel it was able to be adjusted slightly so to face the bed. The room does also have a safe which was very easy to use. The only little sticking point is the knack to try and open the door as they have something which is like a car key, you press wait a second and then turn the knob.

The hotel is in a great location to the city centre and the thermal spas are very close by. The hotel gives you a discount card for staying in Baden Baden and gives you a discount at the Caracalla Spa as well as any treatments. I advise to bring your own towels. You can rent them at 16 euro (10 euro refundable). For the spa you just go to the upstairs part and buy the allotted amount of hours that you want to stay. You are given a wrist band which they show you how to use for the lockers. You need to have a shower before you head to the main part of the spa. There are different parts, fragrant sauna room, a brine sauna room, hot and cold parts. If you go up the spiral staircase this is for those that want to "do as they did in Rome".

The breakfast at the hotel was lovely with a great selection of fruit, cereal, breads, rolls and a number of cheeses and meat with a range of spreads (they have nutella and Philadelphia) They do ask if you want coffee when you sit down. On one of the night coming back from Europa park the town seemed a bit empty so we decided to try the hotel restaurant. You will not be disappointed! We also ordered the local Rose and that was gorgeous. The service was faultless and the food was great!

To get to Europa park from the hotel you just go to one of the ticket machines by Leopoldplatz and (this may not be the cheapest) but got two einzelfahrkarte (single tickets) to the bahnhof ( train station). Once you have bought a single ticket you need to get this verified by getting it stamped into the machines by the doors, there are a number of buses that take you to the station. I found that travelling on the trains was really easy and they have ticket machines which can be read in English. A handy tip is to print of the time table if your not getting a direct train as you know exactly what platform to go to and what time the trains will arrive.
We bought single tickets there and back rather then returns as we were not sure what time were coming back.

The train station for Europa park is Ringsheim where there normally is a bus waiting but it normally is about every 15 mins and takes you straight there and its 2 euro to the themepark.
The trains are less regular with one every 30mins to 1hour. Once your on the bus stay on it as the first stop is for the hotel there and you wont be able to get through that entrance. It is about 40 Euro per person. Food there is really reasonable and further into the park you go the prices vary. Try to find out when the school kids go on holiday because when we went it wasn’t that busy and one day we found was enough to see the whole park at all and the queues were very quick.

Overall I highly recommended this place the staff are friendly, helpful and accommodating and all those that I conversed with had a high level of English.

Room Tip: We had a second floor room next to the road... there was a bit of noise from the street but all you...
