“Great place for families and hiking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2012

This is a fantastic location -- the inn is situated right on the grounds of the castle ruins. Dinner and breakfast are excellent and the rooms are very reasonably priced -- 76 Euro for the first night and 64 Euro for subsequent nights (including breakfast for two). There is great hiking right around the castle, including large rock formations that were crawling with rock-climbers when we were there. The castle ruins are also fun to explore. We wish that we had our kids with us, they would have loved it. This is an undiscovered gem that should not be missed!

One of the other reviews mentioned that the rooms are not fancy, which is certainly true. However they are clean and very spacious. Our room had an amazing view over the valley to the north.

“As always, amazing dinner--looking forward to another great breakfast!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2011

This is our third stay here and we have loved each time. Our usual pattern is to enjoy the town, hit the baths and then relax into dinner here at the castle. After a little wine, we crawl off to comfortable beds, sleep sweet dreams and wake in a castle. Breakfast is a great spread, complete with fruit, eggs, and freshly baked bread to go with the usual meat and cheese.

This fall the views were amazing and we had the castle to ourselves. Amazing!

Visit for dinner and stay the night for a unique visit in an amazing location, with proprietors who are friendly and speak English.

“Fabulous relaxed hotel and restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2011

We stayed here for two nights with family and friends - lovely service and food. Very friendly. Food always fresh and enjoyed by all. Accomodation was good value. I would describe it as straightforward rather than fancy. Children loved running around the castle. Altogether a place with more personality and genuine style than many stuffy Baden Baden hotels. 40 minute walk through the forests to the centre of Baden Baden.

“Your reward for hiking to the castle”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2011

I hiked up from the city center to the castle ruins (Altes Schloss). Stopped in at this restaurant built from part of the castle after exploring the ruins. The service was excellent and food was great. Highly recommended.

“Feel like a king in your royal palace!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2011

We enjoyed a lovely light lunch in the courtyard area of the Altes Schloss Restaurant - cream asparagus soup, smoked trout, potato pancakes and mixed salad. The menu was huge and all items brought out at other tables looked appealing. Parking is down the hill with a bit of a steep short walk up to the restaurant but well worth it. The atmosphere is amazing with the castle ruins all around and the very well integrated renovated hotel and restaurant with courtyard that had huge rose bushes in every corner and other lovely greenery. Picture knights on horses riding up the steep path to the castle! Recommend a stroll through the ruins - enjoy the wind harp - and then a refreshing meal here afterwards!
