After a 5 hour train trip from Barcelona and a short taxi ride from Gare Part Dieu, we arrived at La Chambra d'Hugo, to be welcomed by Christine and Christoph. What a lovely couple, and a what a lovely home. They have just one bedroom available, with attached private bathroom, but it's right in the middle of town so easy access for walks around the old city, which is the best way to see Lyon. Christine was very helpful, full of relevant ideas and suggestions. Each of our 3 days started with a superb breakfast of local treats. With our own key we could come and go as we please, very discreet but very warm and welcoming, We rate the places we stay by the quality of the bed, and this was great. Very comfortable. As we left, our hosts made us aware of their other Chambre D'Hotes in Burgundy should we want to come this way again, and I'm sure we will. When you look on line you want your choice to be just right, and this was.....just right. The best in Lyon.

Room Tip: What they have is what you get.

This is the second time we have stayed with Madame and Monsieur Branche. They are truly lovely hosts-so warm and friendly-nothing is too much trouble.
The room was spotless and smelt of lavender-beautiful linen and stylish touches everywhere.
The dining room has changed since we were there last-it is even more stunning-beautiful muted colours, linens and fabulous presentation in everything-even the tea bags are laid out like a still life!
Location is amazing-walking distance to everything. Lyon is a beautiful city-I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: Only one room-slightly noisy with the window open but the central location is worth it.

La Chambre d'Hugo is a perfect base for exploring the beautiful city of Lyon. It consists of a bedroom and private bathroom in an elegant third floor apartment just off the Place Bellecour. There is a door separating the room from the rest of the apartment so you effectively have a cosy bed-sit. The bed is wide and very comfortable. There is a huge double-glazed window overlooking the street below which, when closed, completely shuts out the sounds of the city. The rest of the apartment is all high ceilings, tall windows, parquet flooring and antique furniture - elegant, very beautiful, wonderfully peaceful and typically French.
Breakfast is served in the dining room and is wonderful. Fresh coffee, fruit juice, bread, croissants, a selection of preserves, cured meats, a selection of cheeses, muesli - the list goes on. Christine will happily adapt to your preferences.
As a host, Christine is attentive and very helpful. She has a wealth of knowledge of the city and is more than willing to help you get the most out of your visit.
The apartment is perfectly placed to explore Lyon. Place Bellecour is a minute's walk away and from there, everything is within easy walking distance.
If you prefer elegant surroundings and value the personal touch, then La Chambre d'Hugo is for you.

Reviews on La Chambre d'Hugo are so positive that you might begin to wonder if they can be accurate. Well, the experience of sharing Christine and Christophe's home in Lyon was wonderful and deserves all the "outstanding" ratings.

La Chambre d'Hugo is just off the Place Bellecour and could not be more central to museums, restaurants, Vieux Lyon, river walks, and parks. It is a quiet refuge in a busy city. The room is quite nice: immaculate, bright, and very comfortable. You have to experience one of Christine's breakfasts because words can not do justice to the fruits, breads, jams, cheeses and good, strong coffee that she provided each morning. You will pause at the door when entering the dining room just to take in the visual effect of a perfect table that also includes fresh flowers.

But it is Christine and Christophe that make La Chambre d'Hugo a real treat. They are terrific hosts and know Lyon very well, both having lived there all their lives. Both are enthusiastic about the city and give an "insiders" view of places to go and food to eat. They are not intrusive but extraordinarily helpful and are excellent at anticipating your needs. We happened to be in Lyon during a public holiday and were on our way out to the street to visit a particular museum. Christophe came up behind us suggesting that before we left they wanted to call the museum to be sure it was open on the holiday. That kind of thoughtfulness is in part what makes the experience of staying at La Chambre d'Hugo complete.

We found La Chamber d'Hugo to be pretty wonderful. Christine and Christophe were very gracious and helpful. The room is exceptionally quiet even though it is on a main street. Since only 1 room is rented, you will find great privacy (...but you won't be engaging conversation with other guests.) Just outside the front door there is ATM access and easy walking to restaurants. Place Bellecour nearby is dramatic, and has good metro service. Other city sights are very walkable. Arriving in Lyon by TGV, the room was about a 10-15Euro ride from the station, and we were very happy to find an elevator making it easy to get luggage upstairs.

Room Tip: There's only 1 room!
