Langley Hotel Gustavia
Ranked #53 of 73 Hotels in Chamonix
Reviewed 17 March 2017

We stayed at Langley Hotel Gustavia in Chamonix on a group (group of 7 in total) ski holiday through Crystal Ski holidays.

The hotel was okay, clean but in need of a refurbishment. No safes in each room and each room seemed to very considerably based on what other’s in the group said. The WIFI was strong up to 3rd floor and there was always hot water.

Hugo at reception ( when he was on duty) was a shining star, always helpful and spot on with whatever the query might be and gave sound advice. Not all the receptionist were very helpful. An example would be day 1, asking where the nearest Bus 14 bus stop would be to one of the ski slopes. A female receptionist guided us (on a map) to a bus stop about 10-15 minute walk on the other side of town (which is far when walking in ski boots). We later found out from out Crystal representative that the nearest Bus 14 bus stop was maybe 5 minute walk from the hotel (in a different direction).

Hotel Gustavia made an excellent attempt to provide me with a vegetarian (no diary / vegan style) meals at dinner time. However, the waitresses were not very helpful and were inconsistent throughout the week. An example would be, when I asked if my falafel was fried in the same frier (oil) as fish (and meat), the waitress replied that she didn’t think so, but will ask (the chef). The waitress never came back with an answer and I never ate the falafel.

On another evening, (different waitress), my wife was served pork. The pork looked rather pink for her liking (having had food poisoning twice in the past from under cooked pork), walked up to the waitress and asked if she could have the pork cooked some more. The waitress said she will come, but continued to process at least two other tables bills. About 20 minutes later, when the same waitress came to clear everyone’s plates, asked if my wife if there is a problem with her dinner (as she did not touch it). My wife explained and said to the waitress it is too late now not to worry everyone has already finished their dinner.

None the less, we had a good week of skiing. Hugo at reception was fantastic when he was on shift, and the cleaning staff were brilliant.

I would not recommend Langleys Hotel Gustavia to others.

I would not recommend a ski holiday to Chamonix because the various ski slopes require buses to get to, the buses do not always run on time and getting use to how the bus system works takes some getting use to. Bus are always overcrowded and stuffy. I would recommend a ski-in / ski-out chalet (not in Chamonix) for people that are after a convenient ski holiday experience.

Room Tip: You do not want a room above the bar down stairs. It gets very loud and noisy due to live band and h...

I'm just back from a long weekend in Chamonix where we stayed at the Gustavia. It's a traditional hotel in a good location with the Chambre Neuf bar and restaurant a real bonus we weren't expecting. We were half board and the food was great all round. At short notice they had no problem catering for me and providing gluten free options for breakfast and evening meal. Hotel staff were really friendly and helpful, special mention to (Swedish) Alex the chef, barman Alex (who helped us plan our ski days) and the lovely Alice who looked after us during our stay.

Room Tip: Apres ski is lively - but I was directly above the bar and didn't have any problems.

Had lovely lunch here as part of a trip visiting Mont Blanc and Chamonix

Served by a young and friendly staff, good beer, great 3 course meal using fresh produce

The hotel is situated in the heart of Chamonix with stunning views of the mountains and has an outside terrace to enjoy alfresco drinks etc

Would happily return

As everybody describes location is very good. Breakfast is fair and rooms are a bit dated but clean, beds are clean, crisp and comfortable. Wouldn't call this a family hotel, I stayed with a group of friends, we went to chamonix for the weekend to enjoy ourselves and for that purpose the hotel is perfect.

Fairly decent ski hotel. Got busy and loud apres ski bar which won't suit everyone.

They have spend some money on the hotel since last year.

Good location 2 minutes walk from centre of chamonix and close to rail links too.
