Recently I was returning to Italy from the UK alone by motorbike, and I had no set plan. I was tired and hungry and approaching the Mont Blanc tunnel when I saw this hotel at the side of the motorway. I turned off and found the hotel and the rest was....great!. Check in with a young guy who tried very hard to please was good fun, the room and view both great and the food and beer excellent too. GREAT stopover, I left at 5am the next morning feeling fully refreshed and keen to hit the road. Recommended!!!

Room Tip: I was overlooking the pool and the gardens, room 324. Lovely.

Having missed our flight to Italy, our hotel was off to a bad start. We ended up driving there, giving us the opportunity to take our time on the way back. We chose to stop in Chamonix, and booked the Hotel Mercure as a cheap way to spend a night. We had low expectations, and were delighted by what we found. The staff were welcoming and helpful despite our poor attempts at french. Our room (a family room for four) was spacious and comfortable, with a balcony with a stunning view of the mountains. Despite us being late to the hotel, dinner was served to an impeccable standard and was absolutely delicious. My parents are vegetarian and the chefs made a salad especially for them which was very nice. Breakfast had a range of options and was delicious, and overall we were very pleased with our stay, and will return if ever in Chamonix again!

I had reservations at this hotel via booking.com over FOUR months in advance of our reservation. We had absolutely no problems with the over 12 hotels we booked via booking.com four our entire vacation but for some reason Mercure claimed that our credit card number didn't work and canceled our two night reservation while we were in the middle of hiking the Tour de Mont blanc when we had very little access to internet. The nights they canceled were over the July 14th bastille day weekend, and hotels in Chamonix had jumped to over $1,000 for the two nights throughout the town. Within minutes of our cancelation notice from the hotel, I called and they said they already rebooked our rooms with no offer to help accomodate us. This changed our entire trip itinerary and we had to scramble to find a hotel in Geneva for those two nights, lost money we had spent pre-purchasing our bus tickets back to Geneva, etc. I know that they did this in order to profit from the surge prices for the weekend we had booked, with no regard at all for a reservation we had made FOUR month prior. It was very clear. Be very careful when you book here as they obviously take advantage of guests! It threw our entire vacation into disarray for DAYS!

Perfect hotel with wonderful location and view to Mont Blanc. High quality and special service to appreciate. Very beautiful nature around and good local transport up to village Chamonix. Charming design of the room just to underline that you are in heart of the mountains. Simply perfect for relaxation!

We picked this hotel because of the parking which is difficult in central Chamonix as many hotels do not offer private parking. There is also a bus stop nearby the hotel and trips are free so the location seemed ideal and we expected a normal 4 star Mercure experience!
The hotel is very tatty outside and inside and much in need of renovation and refurbishment. The young guy on reception was very helpful when we arrived and gave us all necessary information - much appreciated.
However, the bedroom was terrible and looked grubby. everything was a shade of dark brown, the carpets, the walls and the ceilings. The draws were an old metal filling cabinet and the table and chairs were rickety and extremely old and also brown!
I metioned the room to the receptionist and he said that all were the same so we had no option but to stay as we had also prepaid and it would have been difficult to find another hotel so late in the day.
The toilet seat had a large chip in it!
The bathroom has recently been refurbished and was better that the rest of the accomodation. There was no bedside table on on side of the bed!
The restaurant was better and, although a limited choice, served up some excellent meals served by Lucca who did a very good job and provided excellent service. The breakfast was also fine and we had no complaints about the food.
All staff were very pleasant but when I mentioned the rooms were very defensive and referred us to reception - this was obviously a sore point amongst guests!
The hotel caters for many coach trips (mainly Mainland Chinese) and these visitors seem perfectly happy with the standard but I suggest most Europeans and Americans would think the same as we do!

Room Tip: Don't stay here - go somewhere else!
