This is a typical Mercure hotel that acknowledges that it is also a ski lodge in the design of its public rooms. It has a semi-rural setting close to the main road to the Mont Blanc Tunnel and just outside of the crowded town of Chamonix – not a problem for us in summer with a car. Reception was helpful, fast and efficient. Our room had a view to the rear of the hotel towards the spectacular mountains and glaciers. We had a double bed and a sofa that provided a second double bed, presumably for skiers on a budget. There was ample space for the 2 of us but the room would be cramped for 4. The WC was a separate from the bathroom and the room had a good amount of storage space. There is a reasonably sized pool and a hot Jacuzzi. Outside there was seating on a terrace and a children’s play area. Breakfast seemed to follow the Mercure standard of 17 Euros per person but with a half price option of coffee, juice and croissants that could be taken in the bar lounge. We took dinner in some excellent local restaurants and bars in the small towns/villages that are strung out along the valley: try Les Houches.
Part of the Accor Group of hotels, stayed March 2012. We have stayed in this hotel many times over the last 20 years or so both as 'stopover' & short breaks (Originally a Novotel ). The standard of service does vary from time to time, particularly in the dining room but the hotel is clean and generally well run. Even in high season, occupancy can swing from almost empty one day to bursting at the seams the next. Late arrival "overnight stay coach loads" can put a strain on breakfast as 40 or more people try to get fed 'en masse' prior to their early departure next day! Fabulous location but well out of town, so best to stay here with your own transport as taxi rates are astronomic - there is a bus service calling at the hotel which is OK for skiing. Rooms are good size and well serviced daily. There are sometimes good offers for half board 4 night stays - check the Mercure web site. As part of a large chain, the hotel can be impersonal - this can be a good or bad thing, depending on what you want........
Cheapest cuts of meat used for dinner, chicken under cooked.Breakfast bacon under cooked, cold scrambled eggs. An hour long walk to Chamonix.
