We've just spent 5 days at the Welcome Hotel and it has been a wonderful experience. The hotels location is breathtaking and the views are memorable. Lots of famous people have stayed there, Winston Churchill, Henry Ford and a very famous french artist Jean Cocteau. All the staff are most helpful and very pleasant. The hotel is surrounded by excellent restaurants. Beware if you want to take a train from Villefranche to Nice or Menton, there is no ticket office at the local station just an automatic machine which is totally incomprehensible. I asked a french man for some assistance and he couldn't opperate it either. Very heavy fines on french trains if you don't have a ticket, my advice to the bus. We will be returning to this wonderful hotel next year

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view

This hotel has the best location in Villefranche with the best, friendliest, and most helpful staff. We have stayed in many 5* hotels all over Europe but this hotel and its lovely staff just make the stay perfect. The rooms are not amazing, but always clean, and the peaceful, beautiful views are just perfect. This is the best hotel to stay in to experience a beautiful location in Villefrance.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea, with balcony, is just PERFECT

Charming hotel, incredibly friendly and helpful staff but no restaurant and fail to see how it gives value for money. Bed linen extremely clean, bathroom tiles not so clean. Wonderful position in the old town, down on the sea front but cannot reconcile the prices they charge. Rather sorry to say this because the staff were super. Susie Scott

New Year 2015/16

Our favourite Cote d'Azur hotel where we've now spent countless visits.

We've been back and forth to the Cote d'Azur for over 30 years, always dreamt of staying at the Welcome and since 2012 have made the Welcome our Easter and Winter destination ever since. Probably seven visits now.

On New Year's Eve 2014/15 we decided that we couldn't cope with another depressing New Year in the wet post-Christmas, shopping obsessed UK, while we were watching another tragic Jools Holland Hooternanny, so booked the Welcome (again) that very night for a year ahead - New Year 2015/16.

We booked "our room" (I'm not giving you the number as I want it always available) and set about organising visits to Mougins, St Paul de Vence and Eze around the visit and a magnificent New Year's Eve dinner at La Belle Etoille in the village.

A couple of weeks before our latest visit I got a call from the hotel to tell me that they had upgraded us to the top suite in the hotel at no extra cost as a result of our room not being available due to renovation work. I was grateful for the upgrade but disappointed, as the room we had booked was important to us. I asked that they they to get our room finished in time for our visit as we had booked a year in advance, but we would still continue with the upgrade otherwise.

They managed our expectations perfectly. We arrived to be told that the room we wanted had been prepared for us and also beautifully renovated in time for our visit.

A magnificent hotel and I don't degin to understand ridiculous rants from other British people (we pretend to be Danes or Swedes in France and they're generally nicer than complaining Brits) as to their New Year's Eve experience here. And it's Cognac, not "Brandy" by the way to the person who gave the one star rant. Try Tenerife or Madeira, not the Cote d'Azur next year.

We're back in March 2016 and again next New Year - booked while checking out on the 2nd Jan. And maybe we'll find time for another visit in September too.

We've only spent here 1 night and it was our wedding night. The staff of the hotel are super friendly and helpful. We've chosen Jean Cocteau room, n.22, and it was absolutely beautiful!!! The view is fantastic there. The service was fantastic as well. We'd like to say big THANK U to Welcome hotel.
