“Perfect location for a memorable holiday.”
Reviewed 25 September 2014 for a stay in June 2014

This was our second visit to this property in three years, which I guess says a lot.
For us, the location is perfect, quiet but no more than 5 minute's walk from the centre of a fascinating mediaeval town with a great range of restaurants and within easy driving range of the delights of the Cote d'Azur and Loup valley.
Both bedrooms have ensuites and good wardrobe space, there is a good-sized living room, incorporating sitting, dining and kitchen areas and we enjoyed lunches on our outdoor terrace under a vine-covered loggia. The free wi-fi access was reliable and we also appreciated the iPod dock. Beds were comfortable and the only difficulty we had was persuading the shower in the second bedroom to provide water at a consistent temperature. This was not a problem in the other bedroom.
The apartment has access to a shared garden that looks across a valley to the Matisse Chapel. There are also shared laundry and barbeque facilities but we did not use these. The car park is adequate for all guests but access from the public laneway is a little tight, so we would advise against renting the largest hire cars. Given the nature of the winding and hilly roads on the Cote d'Azur this would probably apply wherever you stay!
The owner and/or caretaker were readily available on-site and were always helpful.
Vence has everything you could need for a relaxing holiday, great atmosphere, a very good LeClerc supermarket within 5 minute's drive and a local supermarket just a few minutes from the apartment on foot. For restaurants, we liked La Litote and the brasserie at Le Victoire for more casual dining. The boulangerie next to the Credit Agricole was our favourite for our daily bread and croissants. If you aren't up for the traffic in Nice, there is also an inexpensive public bus.
We have had two memorable stays at Old Savonnerie 1 and it will certainly be our first choice next time we are visting the area.

“A shame about the terrace”

The property is spacious with good facilities. The gardens are very extensive but need some care and attention and the garden furniture is a little run down. If you go there be sure to pack mosquito repellant as the vine covered terrace is very shaded and provides a perfect humid atmosphere for mosquitoes and other insects. We were bitten so badly we decided to leave the apartment early.

Hello there, thanks so much for taking the time to review and once again we're so sorry you suffered with the mosquitoes. It's true they can be a pest in the summer and as you say, it's definitely a good idea to take some repellent. We're taking steps to improve the situation for next summer. Regarding the garden furniture, it's good quality with wood recliner chairs & cushions and wrought-iron/mosaic dining table & chairs, with pleasure we'll have a look at your comments. As you say, the property is spacious with good facilities and it's also in an excellent location just a short walk from the old town - we've had many happy clients stay and return over the years. Thanks again!
