“What a romantic one-night getaway!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2011

My husband and I just stayed at Hotel du Golf de Valescure (in Saint Raphael) a few days ago as a "one-night stop-over" between visiting Antibes/Cannes and St Tropez. What a lovely overnight! (We booked it through an internet site as our plans were last minute.) After checking in, we put on the fluffy white bathrobes in our room and had a swim in the pool (with lovely garden chaises on the well-manicured lawns around the pool - lots of trees and flowers). We were served drinks by the pool. Later in the evening, we treated ourselves to the dinner in the hotel restaurant - actually outside on tables with umbrellas. The meal was 5-star exquisite (small portions and a bit pricey but worth every penny!) The restaurant staff were friendly and professional. Our room (the most basic room) was absolutely beautiful - well-appointed, vaulted ceiling, comfortable bed and linens and a large bathroom with tub/shower. I would most definitely stay here again if in the area - it was a little oasis (golf resort area) of romance and relaxation for us!

This is a family hotel and NOT ADULTS ONLY hotel that websites in UK have been misleading people with. They had children aged babies to teenagers like us from France, Germany, Holland & USA !! Hotel websites in UK have got it wrong. I booked with Expedia after getting them to ring the hotel if teenagers were allowed as I had read reviews from other families. This is a beautiful hotel set in acres of gardens & trees, amongst a Golf course. The course was built by an English man in the 1900's, the original hotel was located few 100 yards from the new one now. They have English histiory at this hotel, as they had PRINCE EDWARD & MRS WALLIS SIMPSON coming to play Golf, and they have pictures in the lobby of them playing Golf. Many royal Kings including King of Italy, Lord Mountbatten & Dukes have played Golf here & have signed their names which are displayed in the Lobby. The current hotel Manager kindly showed us where the old hotel stood and the old balck & white pictures of the hotel with various French Golf Champions and Royaltiy & dignitories came. The full english Golf couyrse was built by an English man, and currently the Clubhouse has over 650 members including a current French lady champion, they have huge league tables on the walls, with colonial style clubhouse with golfers starting early in the morning. By 10 30 the club is thriving with golfers in caddies, and they serve lunches & drinks. The lawns are immaculate. We were not golfers but the hotel was perfect, few miles away from St Raphael centre & beach, a pretty seaside classy town. We found a car park at the far end of beach, parking always available free after 7pm, but reasonable during the day too. Sat Nav is a must, as hotel is in a classy area, with other Golf hotels nearby. There is a Spar, Boulangerie, Pharmacy, Pizza palce 10mins walk away or 2min by car. We did a water park near Antibes,we went to Great Canyon and Gorge of Verdon which is a must see, huge tall gorge opening out into a gorgeous turquoise lake for miles on which families can kayak, canoe, and use pedaloes at a gentle pace which can be hired. (just idyllic, take a picnic with you & you can stop off on side) hardy men & boys were jumping off the rocks, the water is so calm & blue!! There are fireworks at Frejus port on Friday & on Sunday in St Raphael. Ice creams are to die for, in St Raph, and there are amazing market stalls most nights on the strip with great stuff(not tacky at all). Restaaurants in ST Raph are in abundance, but take time to find exclusive ones on tripadvisor for hidden ones in side streets like The Thai, The Cave, The Bishop, and many more as treats. The hotel is great to get away from all. We used the Jacuzzi, Sauna, & steam room every pm or evening(free)as are tennis courts and archery & putting. The rooms are amazing Luxe one have tea making facilities. All staff are v friendly, and the manager(thank you so much) was v proud of the history behind the hotel. Thoroughly recommend the hotel idyllic location but so close to beach & classy cultured resort. Certain nights you have free rock & jazz bands playing along the promenade. We will be back agin, 1 week is not enough. Thank you all at Golf fe Valescure.

Room Tip: Charm rooms are brilliant, but Luxe rooms are bigger with kettles etc, buy milk from Spar for teas...

Stayed here due to business in the area. Hotel is fine, no real grumbles, but unless you are specifically there for the golf or spa you feel a bit stuck.

Although it's near St Raphael/Frejus, you would not walk into them. This means driving or eating/drinking at the hotel. Food is excellent but pricey, it's 4 star and you better be a light eater due to portion sizes!! No real atmosphere in the evenings which is a shame as when you head into St Raphael there is plenty to do in the evenings, top class places to eat that are cheaper and value for money.

wonderful and very very modern rooms, lately renovated, high standard, guarded parking, good clientele, everything clean, great situation in the golf parks, but only reachable by car. had a fantastic and really relaxing night there! tennis courts and many golf courts of high quality surround this charming hotel. good food and friendly stuff. 24h open reception (which is not self-evident in southern france!) st. raphael is close to st. tropez and cannes, but from the golf hotel you need a car for everything (shopping, dining out, casino, pubs, bars, beach, ...) we arrived spontaniously in the middle of the night and the ladies at the reception welcomed us warmly and helpfully. we enjoyed our time at hotel du golf! many thanks to the hotel!
