Haven't visited the castle itself, it looked great from the outside. The view of sea from nearby is absolutely great!

I boarded a train in Nice and was headed to Monte Carlo, when I got so interested in a conversation with a fellow traveler that I didn't realize that the last stop was Monte Carlo until the train was leaving. Panicked, I told the conductor what happened and he said the next stop was Roquebrune and I could get a return train, but it would be several hours and as long as i was there I should visit the castle. I did and the castle is wonderful but the real fun was visiting the many little shops, where artists and artisens create and sell their wares to the world. .

Fantastic, quiet, well-preserved castle with stunning views of the Riviera Coast. Skip Eze jardin botanic and go here instead. The views are much better and it's crowd free.

We need more villages like this, Why don't modern architects live in such a village as this and then try to create a modern version of it? No cars; lots of exercise; numerous chances to meet the neighbours; places to drink and socialise within walking distances; a mini market and a mini shop to provide all the necessaries do daily life without hassles of parking and service provided with heat gusto and personal attention. Buying a baguette is a pleasure. And on top of all this is historical character and minuscule details of angels in walls and old iron pegs sticking out with flowering plants climbing for sun from the tunnels and house bridges. A different detail around every corner and there are so many corners in such a confined space. Medieval stories within a minute capsule of a man made rock village. Oh why can't we recreate such styles instead of these large city concrete catastrophes?
