“Very nice boutique French hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2012 via mobile

Me and my partner stayed at Rivoli for 5 nights at the end of May. We found the staff to be extremely pleasant and helpful although we didn't have much call to speak to them other than the usual greetings in passing.
We stayed in room 6 which was a 'superior room'. The room was quite big and well decorated in a typically French boutique style which I thought made it feel much more homely and romantic than some of the larger more commercial hotels. The bathroom was on the small side but always very clean and as others have commented the balconies were only just big enough for one person to stand on. Still it was nice to be able to open the doors and get some fresh air. There was quite a bit of traffic noise but then what do you expect in Nice...it is a town afterall. And besides as soon as the windows were closed you couldn't hear the traffic.
We only had breakfast once at the hotel which was ok but you could possibly find nicer elsewhere. Not sure about cheaper though? The coffee tasted like instant coffee and I was bitten all over by the bugs in the garden. Remember your insect repellant!!
We felt the location was good. It was really easy to get bus no 98 from airport to outside the Negressco which is then a 2 minute walk to Rivoli. The restaurants in the shopping area are a 5 min walk and the old town a 20 minute walk. Perfect to walk off your dinner!
Nice in my opinion is a great destination and unfortunately we went to Cannes for 2 nights afterwards. We missed the Rivoli and Nice so much we almost decided to leave Cannes and go straight back!
We will definitely be visiting the Rivoli again in the future

I stayed here with my husband on our honeymoon. I chose it because it looked close to everything, and had romantic, french decor. Nice is a small place, so you can basically choose anywhere and be 'nearby'. The decor is lovely as you can see in the photos.

The customer service was ok. The first lady we spoke to was quite pleasant, helping us circle attractions on our map and giving bus/travel directions. The second day, the housekeeper forgot to replenish our tea, so I explained this to reception, requesting two teabags. I was questioned, and dubiously given two more teabags! I couldn't believe this, how much do teabags cost?! Our heater didn't work that night either, and the lady on at nightime did not understand english, so we had to wait 24 hours till it was fixed.

Also, we were led to believe the price of the room included breakfast, so we felt a little ripped off, and quite surprised, to hear that breakfast cost an extra 14 euro per person per day!

We very much enjoyed Nice, but if I were you, I would look around before staying here.

My husband and i stayed for three nights late May. On a budget room wise as we like to wine and dine! Were located in one of the basement rooms (the one with the charming mosaic sink in travellers pics) Were very impressed for the cost .Our little room was extremely clean and welcoming, shower excellent and bed very comfortable. We never had brekky but had a drink in the evening before we went out in the little garden. The staff were extremely pleasant with info regarding getting around.Very easy to get to cannes and Monte Carlo -Monaco. Enjoyed the sights in Cannes for the film festival would recommend a visit at this time of the year. All in all a very enjoyable break thankyou villa rivoli!

Room Tip: If like us you really just want to rest your head go for a basement room Quite small but all you nee...

We came to Nice for the first time to celebrate a very special wedding anniversary. We had chosen Villa Rivoli as we thought that the hotel would be more individual and have more charm than the bigger hotels. We stayed in room 6 which had been described as a "superior" room. While the room was clean and the bathroom also clean there was nothing remarkable about it. The 2 small balconies described were barely big enough to stand on. It would not have been possible to put 2 chairs on them even if we had wanted to sit and overlook the busy street with it's constant traffic below. The hotel is very well located with all the major sights and bus routes etc very easily reached. Unfortunately like a lot of other establishments in Nice it seemed that money was the most important thing to the staff there. We paid 537 euros for our 3 night stay there and when I asked for more teabags for the advertised tea and coffee making facilities in the room I was told rather abrubtly that I could have one only "this time" as we had already used the 2 allocated to us that day but in future if I wanted more I would have to pay. This was then brought out from under lock and key and handed to me. Also we were expected to pay extra for water in our rooms. The breakfast room was shown to us and it was stressed that we would have to pay 12 euros each extra for breakfast each day. Again this seemed rather a lot of money considering what we paid for the room. Some of the staff while polite were rather unfriendly, especially the evening we arrived and the teabag incident.

To sum up I would not recommend this hotel. Money is the key thing to them and they need to brush up on their customer service skills. We had hoped for somewhere more friendly and welcoming as this was a very special time for us on our anniversary and we felt disappointed by the attitude of some staff there. We would have liked to be able to sit and have a drink in the garden but the hotel did not feel welcoming enough to do this and we were determined not to spend any more money than we already had as clearly this was the most important thing to them. We therefore had drinks and meals at other more welcoming places.

Dear Madame, dear Sir,
We thank you for spending the time giving us all the information and we feel very sorry that your stay wasn’t as expected. The hotel was build in the end of 19th. Century and our “belle époque hotel “ is considered as a beautiful historical example for the past century . The name of the architect is Max Blanchi he is very renowned in our area for his work realized mostly in the “’ quartier des Musiciens”. Therefore it’s impossible to change the size of the balconies. Thank you for the compliments to our chamber maids, we will forward to them that the rooms were very clean. Every morning the chambermaids are putting tea bags on the complimentary tea-and coffee service in the rooms. In case guests are wishing additional tea bags we forward it to them as well, of course. Our receptionist informed me that when she showed you the room upon arrival it seemed that you liked it very much. Good Service is one of our priorities as we are not a standard hotel and as the hotel Villa Rivoli has a with a human size, we know that we can achieve this objective and we are working very hard on this. We feel very sorry, that you didn’t come to see us during your stay in order to find a solution, specially as your stay was for a wedding anniversary and our politic is having happy clients….

Heart pumping from dragging our suitcases to the second floor, it was a surprise to find the bed in our room occupied 80%of the floor space and the wardrobe took about 10% of our clothes. The poor internal wall insulation allowed us to listen to our neighbours tv's and conversations quite easily, and we amused ourselves by trying to guess the make of the cars which screeched to a halt at the traffic lights in the rue rivoli all night-no double glazing here to impede our hearing ....Clean room, though. In a neighbourhood packed with hotels, try one with soundproofing and floor space -it's a novel concept.......
