We arrived at the hotel within 15 minutes of landing in Nice airport. The check-in was faultless and as there were 3 of us we were given a suite which had a double sofa bed made up in the living area. The room was a good size for 3 people and it had 2 separate doors into the bathroom which was handy for the person using the living area as she didn't have to come through the bedroom.

One of the girls' lost her case keys and within minutes of asking reception if they could help, a young man arrived with a hammer and chisel and manage to break the lock.

The hotel was in an excellent location, just minutes from the Promenade des Anglais and the railway station and about 10/15 minutes walk to the old town.

It was particularly good to have the swimming pool on the roof. The pool was small but was ideal for cooling down after a hot day sightseeing.

I would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Nice for its location and particularly the helpfulness of the staff who all speak very good English.

Stayed here in September 2007. Great location could'nt ask for a more convenient one, whether for rail or air travellers. The room was a standard on the 4th floor overlooking the Victor Hugo, and was clean and comfortable, with a King size bed and a small balcony. We had requested a smoking room but were placed on a non-smoking floor. However, the balcony made up for this. For a 4* hotel, the only real niggle was the lack of in-room safe and tea and coffee making facilities- these should be standard in all rooms. The breakfast was a vastly overpriced rip-off, but it usually is in France and there are some good cafes nearby anyway. The rooftop pool and deck area are great for relaxing after a hard day touring the region by train. Don't bother with car hire, public transport is cheap and efficient and gets you everywhere you need to go. A great holiday in a really pleasant and well-soundproofed hotel.

Hotel Splendid is far from being anything it's name might conjure. Not that it's a bad place to stay. If you are visiting Nice on a budget and want somewhere convenient for both beach and railway station it would suit you fine. It's clean, certainly and reasonably modern in appearance. However, it's also utterly faceless and will make no lasting impression upon you. If you can afford to do so, select one of the more characterful hotels, evocative of Nice's golden age, that line the promenade. The Splendid functions best as a place to sleep between your explorations of the cote d'azur.
If you want to spend some time on the beach yet also intend to use the trains to visit other towns and cities then you will find the hotel perfectly positioned. If, however, you entertain romantic notions of this illustrious stretch of the French coastline the Splendid will do nothing at all to stimulate your imagination.

Recently returned from a few nights stay at the Hotel Splendid and found it to be very average. I did not view it as a 4 star hotel. I booked it late through Expedia and booked a room called Harmony. I was advised this was not a standard room and was a room for 3. On arrival the room had only a double bed and there certainly was no room for a third person! The room was adequate but small. There was a small balcony which had a view of the air conditioning unit. There were no tea and coffee facilities and the room did not have a safe. The bathroom was clean and functional.

I have no real complaints to make but I felt the hotel totally lacked atmosphere and if anything was a little depressing. From the past reviews it appears that the room I had probably was a standard room. It certainly could not be classed as deluxe. I have no major complaints to make but I would like to reinforce the fact that I found the hotel room quite drab and depressing and did not really look forward to returning to it. That said it certainly did not spoil my stay in the wonderful charming charismatic city of Nice.

I would like to recommend the restaurant 11e Art on rue Mayerbeer which is a delightful restaurant with pleasant staff and an excellent menu. The food is superb. Enjoy!

Reading some of the past reviews would lead you to think that this is a less than average hotel, however our stay was very good. Perhaps we were lucky, but we had a beautfiul room. Maybe ours was one of the renovated ones, but we found the room and bathroom to be of a very good standard. There were two adults and one child and when we arrived we found we had a large room with 2 double beds and a double bathroom. We were on holiday in the South of France and we had booked this for our last night and were more than happy. We had a lovely bedroom, very well decorated, and a lovely bathroom - double sink, bath, shower, bidet etc. In the room we had a mini-bar, safe and tea-making facilities. We found the staff very friendly and the restaurant good enough. However, as we booked slightly out of season (when all the french children had gone back to school) we found the restaurant pretty empty, and as mentioned in a previous review, the waiting staff were 'attentive'. But the waiter was extremely friendly and when i mentioned how much i liked the small blue bowls they used for ice cream the waiter brought me one!
Yes the pool is quite small, but what is to be expected from a rooftop pool? And unlike a previous review, the jacuzzi was heated - we jumped straight in after we cheked in - after 7pm - and found both the jacuzzi and pool to be very warm and welcoming. Our last morning in Nice was spent in the jacuzzi and on the sun terrace and overall we had a lovely night there. Would definitely go back - hopefully we will book again next summer - a lovely evening was spent there.
