“Everything you need”
Reviewed 17 March 2012

I stayed here a for 2 nights and loved it. It's just a 5 minute walk from the train station or 20 min taxi journey (taxi's are REALLY expensive so try get the train or bus). The hostel is also just by lots of shops, and restaurants. The bars are a bit scarce but the ones we found were really great. There is free wifi with a really good connection so easy to keep in touch. Also, they have singers, pianist etc in the evening which is great because everyone was in the communal area so a bit easier to make friends (always hard going "Hi! im steph - please be my friend!" but a bit easier when there is entertainemnt) the food and beer there is really good too so people mainly eat & drink there before going out. The room and showers were very clean. Also, the bus station is just round the corner, I took a bus to monaco which took 45mins and drove along the cost - all for 1 euro! the last bus home was at 6 so i took the train back which was only about 4 euros (ps: train station in Monaco is stunning! like a grand hotel, must have looked like SUCH a tourist taking pics- hahah). Breakfast is toast, cereal, coffee etc. Plus, I was out there during the rugby world cup and they put it on in the morning for me - they have a big projector screen - excellent! a great venue - couldnt recommend more.

Room Tip: I went for a smaller 6 person room

If you are over 60 and have always wanted to stay in a Hostel but never had the opportunity, I recommend this one . It was my first experience and it was wonderful. Price of room comes with breakfast, they have a bar where people gather and the best brownies you have ever every tasted. People of all ages stay at this hostel, the owner also has another in Nice further out surrounded by gardens so either I think make for a great stay. If you want to cook your own meals you have access to a kitchen and the living room has many comfy chairs and couches to sit on in addition there are computers and the internet is free with no time limits

I stayed at this hostel over the Christmas and New Years holidays and was impressed with several things. First was the location. A very short walk to Place Messena, the main square of Nice, and the tram line. Maybe, 5 minutes walk to the beach. Couldn't ask for a better centralised location. Everything was convenient to the hostel with the exception of the bus lines that take you to and from the airport and to Monaco. I only say that because depending on the amount of luggage you have, it is a little cumbersome to get back and forth. The value for the bed and the location was excellent in my opinion. The beds were as expected, beds. Nothing incredibly comfortable but if you are used to IKEA bedding, then you will feel right at home. Showers were relatively clean. I do recommend you bring shower shoes though. The ventilation in the showers is minimal so be prepared to have a very steamy environment if you choose to dry off in the wash room area. I recommend you use the stairs no matter what floor you are on after you have placed you luggage in your dorm. The elevator is very slow and often seems like it will trap you inside. The breakfast is average, they provide coffee and tea all day long, bread, and a decent assortment of cereals. They provide butter, and assorted jams and jellies. I will say that they are very prompt in ending their breakfast at 1030 and will clear the tables of the butter and jam even though you are still eating. There is a full kitchen that is available for everyone to use except during the "chef" hours. I recommend going to the nearby casino, or picard, even the fish and flower market and pick up a few items so you can cook for yourself if so needed. There is a wash area where you place all of your dishes. Let me warn you of the water pressure being very high and the likelihood it would splash on to you is very high. There is a good sized great room where there are tables, a piano and television. There is a good selection of movies available on their DVR and they have cable so you can watch the news or SkySports. They also have around 8 or so computers available to use with free wi-fi also available. Double check the keyboard you are using for some are set for European standard and not US. The staff is pretty helpful. They have good maps of all the main attractions and many of them have good local advice that is very helpful. My only real complaint about the hostel is the cleanliness of the dishes. Their dishwasher doesn't do a very good job of cleaning the dishes properly. Many of the coffee mugs were still stained with coffee lines and lip impressions. Easy fix though, bring your own mug. They also offer a laundry service for a fee and the use of towels are free of charge. The best tip I can offer is that when you arrive via airport and take the bus, tell the bus driver you want to get off at the closest stop to Place Messena, and the hostel is located across from Galleries Lafayette. By knowing those two landmarks it will make your arrival easier.
