It is easy as can be from Nice, and the resort offers excellent skiing for all levels.
However, activities after skiing, even for a family with young children and no need of nightlife, are extremely limited. They include shopping ( ski wear only), eating out ( quite pricey), and not much else. If you have a car and are getting cabin fever in the afternoon, you can drive to the swimming pool in Isola village, which is excellent for children, and, if you are a dedicated swimmer who does not mind being confined to one lane, provides enough to do for adults too for a decent price( look up Aquavallee for more info).
I would definitely go back given the good value offered by weekly ski passes, especially when bought during Tuesday night flash sales. It is also cheaper to fly to Nice during ski season than to Genoble , Chambery or Lyon. Warning; despite the altitude, it will get hotter than more northerly resorts sooner, as we found was the case when we went in April. Having said that, slopes are maintained assiduously and skiing in the morning is possible even in the late season.

The skiing is a little limited but great for children and intermediate skiers. However, the slopes were very quiet and you never Q.

We went skiing for 5 days in Isola and loved it- our group was aged from 28-40 and theres not much nightlife but we didn't go to party. We went for skiing. we had great weather and the slopes were great for mixed ability. All the staff at Isola were really friendly and its great value for money! we are booking for next year.

A little history for anyone exploring the bunkers. In September 1944, a good friend was captured near the bunkers. He was part of the 509th PIB and was leading a patrol up the pass towards what is now Isola 2000. They were on the foot trail which is still there today. He was wounded and captured along with 4 other members of the 509th. Before we made our trip to Isola and find the place he was captured, he described the area to us in detail. They did not see the bunkers as they were camouflaged back in 1944. His patrol ran across a trip wire and just after they disarmed the trip wire, they noticed German troops down in the valley coming their way. At this time, the mountain erupted with German artillery. As he was running back down the path with tracers going by him, he noticed a small shallow cement ditch which he dove into for protection. The shallow cement ditch is still there, in the middle of nowhere and we found it. It was not very deep as he got shot in the rear lying in the cement ditch. The shallow cement pad is on the right side of the path as you are walking back down the path towards Isola. He jumped out of the cement ditch and into a deeper area next to the path. His group had ran out of ammunition and they were talking small arm and artillery fire. As he was lying there, he put his helmet out in front of him for protection and soon took a direct hit. When he came to, the Germans were taking his watch. Four of his men were hiding behind some bigger rocks just up the ridge from him and were eventually captured. Big rocks were still there. The rest of the patrol made it back to Isola and one member received a Silver Star. The German's also captured several French Soldiers along with the five 509ers. The German's lined everyone up and proceeded to shoot the French and brought the 5 Americans into the bunkers as POW's.

Returned to Isola after 39 years. The hotels and the major complex is still quite boring, not much going on. Skiing on the other hand is easy accessible and well connected even though there was a shortage of snow during our stay. Normally isola is known for very fine off post runs, a lot of snowfall and sun. Slopes are mainly easy to intermediate.
Apartments and ski passes were quite cheap, food and restaurants a bit expensive.
We combined our stay with the last night down in Nice which is highly recommended.
