I haven't written a review before despite using a lot of hotels, but this one has provoked me into action.
The Mercure at Cannes Mandelieu is billed as a modern hotel and, in large part, it is. That, though is not the whole story.
Attached to the modern part is what must have been the 1960s/1970s first incarnation of this hotel and IT'S STILL BEING USED. It looks a bit like the Bates Motel and the ancient and dented beds reinforce this impression. They smell terrible, look terrible and you'd need to be desperate to sleep in such a hole. Apparently, these are the "Standard" rooms and the modern ones (which are fine - palaces in comparison) are the subject of additional charge once you've rejected the horrible smelly old ones.
The food in this hotel is awful although the waiting staff do try to be nice to make up for it somewhat.
Altogether, though a ghastly experience.
