“Just a little mail to say how happy we were with our last stay in Cap d'Antibes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2011

We took a chance with a hotel we hadn't stayed in before, being already lovers of the region, and we were not disappointed.
The hotel is situated right on the sea, with swimming pools both inside and out - something for any kind of weather.
The service was both friendly, professional and there was a lovely family atmosphere about the place which is missing from quite a few hotels of the same calibre in the area.
The food was regional and well-chosen and we ate (and fell asleep) every day with the sound of the waves in our ears. Just bliss !
We most heartily recommend !

This was a room that my spare room would have been an embarassment to a guest, the shower half worked , the basin tap was broken, even the chair in the ghastly room was broken, there were no nice things in the room, trust me on this it was so basic,
when I got back to London and looked at the bill, The idea of being charged 380 eurrs PER NIGHT was a shock to say the least plus their miserable little breakfast which consisted of a toasted baquette and 2 pats of butter(I always felt it was Yesterdays bread toasted) and a yogurt.
At 380 per night, they are taking the p*** quite seriously, if I had known their prices, I would never have gone there, but silly me, as a serial traveler I made a mistake, Always check the prices

In many ways, this hotel is an oddity, it is small yet has the sort of beach, pool and outdoors facilities and activities 5 star, SLH chain hotels offer or dream of, with private beach in a picturesque setting, and yet, it is so down to earth and has such plainly decorated interiors that one wonders if one is in the same hotel. The rate is quite exorbitant in high season, and the latter's interiors, furnishings and bedding simply do not warrant it, even with the splendid sea view, lovely back gardens, a balcony straight onto the shore (see pics) - etc, it still feels inside like an 80s seaside motel. Luckly, one does not spend much time inside in such a great place, though beds could be improved in the standard rooms also. Yet, one cannot help but love this super friendly, family run little gem. Mouhamed will take care of your car, Katie and her brother will ensure you as a guest are reserved the best seat on the beachside deck (from what I gather, and rather disappointingly, the hotel's private beach is open for paying visitors, so on the first afternoon when we checked in there were only back areas that one could use, but we got most splendid seats reserved in the front row on the beach deck and the water for the remaining 4 days!)

It is also an oddity because it's like no other normal 4 star or the like seaside hotel - there isn't really a reception per se, there is a desk and most of the time there would be one of the family members to serve the customers, the restaurant is there serving rather enormous plates of food, but it is around €20 per club sandwich or salad, but service brisk and very friendly. Breakfast service is obliging (you get pretty much anything you order in addition to standard continental variety) but it is painfully slow (more than snail pace) - they really must fix the understaffing issue. That said, as an early riser, before breakfast service starts I was always got my super cup of espresso by the pool with a smile whilst admiring the splendid sea views. Room 12 that was allocated to me, was in the single storey part of the hotel, further away from the husle and bussle of the central hotel area, and I was grateful for the peace of quiet despite its standard room class and rather strange and garrish furnishings (see pics). The bathroom and toilet were separate, though bathroom window was not opaqued so for privacy reasons one had to always obstruct it by opening the door as one could see into the mirror, but even that was not help when showering. N o shower screen, "water everywhere" scenario makes the floors slippery, rubbish bin broken, and no bins whatsoever elsewhere in the room. No internet access in standard room except common area lounge near reception desk. Aircon very efficient, if not super quiet.

With all its shortcomings and oddness, and very expensive high season rates including for standard (all with sea view) rooms considering the furnishings and bed and linen comfort levels (or lack thereof) this is a really splendid hotel, in one of the best locations on the Riviera, 20min drive to Cannes, easy enough distance to Nice and the like. The activities and various water sports etc offered for the whole family are excellent, and the beach and poolside facilities brilliant as was the service and the garden areas. The best part of the 3 week summer vacation by a long mile, with dinner at Cannes' Le Mesclun a particular highlight and only 20min drive away.

We stayed at the Baie Doree for two nights in June. The room was nice, clean with exception of dust in the corners and quiet. The restaurant served wonderful food, but it cost a fortune, and the breakfast of pain, croissants and coffee was 20 euro per person. Also, it costs more than 20 euros each way via taxi into Antibes. While this is not Baie Doree's problem, just something to keep in mind.

My wife and I stayed at the Baie Doree Hotel in Cap d'Antibes for two nights in June 2007. The property is set on a peaceful cove and within walking distance of an excellent restaurant across the bay. The suite we stayed in had lovely views and was clean. The interior decoration of the property is a bit of a mix but services were professional, staff willing to accomodate a late lunch or midnight drinks, the indoor pool is lovely, the sundeck nice for sunbathing and also for breakfast. If you get a good rate, you will be satisfied, if not left breathless. If you pay high season, you might be more critical.
