Avignon has a large number of very good restaurants which we sampled over a number of days. But for us, l'Agape stood out for its combination of inventive cooking and fair pricing. The wine list is also very extensive and well priced, especially for the older vintages. They offer champagne 'a la piscine' - which turns out to be champagne served with champagne ice cubes! We weren't brave enough to try it, though.
The 25e 'formule' for lunch includes some excellent dishes, like the 'fondue' - cheese foam with generous pieces of ham: very tasty. And the confit rabbit with tapenade and a deliciously light and flavourful side of saffron polenta. My dessert of pear in red wine was made extra special with cream and raspberries. It was also delightful to see a little girl of no more than three enjoying the adult courses, happily chomping away on octopus!
