“Another fantastic stay at Le Colbert”
Reviewed 25 June 2012

We just returned from our 4th stay at Le Colbert and each time is simply wonderful. Patrice and Annie are the best hosts one could ask for: extremely helpful in every way possible- from providing suggestions for dinner and making restaurant reservations to cooking gourmet breakfasts- they do it all. The rooms are spotlessly clean and the hotel is very quiet- a guarantee for a good night's sleep. To top off all of these pluses, it is in the best location in Avignon and the room rates are more than reasonable.
It really is "a home away from home".
Why stay anywhere else???

Le Colbert is in a good location to see this wonderful city. We stayed for a couple of nights during the avignon arts festival - which is a fantastic experience - though hotel prices are a bit higher during this period. The staff were helpful and the room clean, comfortable and airy. The hotel itself feels a bit squashed up (naturally for a being in the city centre) and isn't a place you would want to spend much time - but Avignon is such a lovely city that this is no problem.

We recently stayed in Le Colbert for 3 nights after selecting the hotel through Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. This is a lovely typical small French hotel which maintains a certain charm supported by very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was at the top of the hotel with a great view of the southern rooftops of the city. It was large with en suite shower and bath. The hotel decoration captures the artistic and cultural flair of the city and creates a homely atmosphere. It is very well located within the city walls, a few minutes from the station and within 10 minutes of the Popes Palace. There are intimate squares with good restaurants and cafes at the end of the road. Breakfasts are very good and different from you usually get. You also get a hot dessert! A great hotel in a fantastic city. Very good value for money.

Room Tip: Don't skip breakfasts!

we chose Le Colbert because of Trip Advisor reviews and were very happy with our choice. Due to a late booking on our part we had 2 different rooms: Room 7 for 2 nights and Room 1 for 1 night. I suggest you request NOT to have room 1 if at all possible (more later on that).

We took the Eurostar from London and then TGV from Lille. Le Colbert had provided perfect easy to follow instructions for getting the bus from the front of the train station (E1.20 each way, 10 min ride, buses every 20 mins) to town and then a short 5 min walk to the hotel. Upon arrival Patrice greeted us with and took the time to explain everything to us (hotel facilities, map of the town with key locations and walking time, etc).

Throughout our stay Patrice and Annie were charming hosts, always watching out for our needs. (But bear in mind this is not a 5 star establishment. I think some of the 'poorer' reviews have expected much more than is reasonable).

Room 7 is on the second floor (and Patrice will carry your bags up if necessary, as there is no lift), and is a large room, with a large double bed and separate toilet and shower. Very nice.

Room 1 is on the first floor and similarly appointed, excepted the toilet and shower are in an ensuite combination, as in most hotels. The downside however is that the shower in this room drains into the sewer line (not uncommon in many old European buildings) which means odours from the sewer return to the bathroom (but fortunately not the bedroom). Although initially disconcerting, this can be alleviated by covering the shower drain with the bathmat.

Breakfast at Le Colbert is very French - a combination of what Patrice calls 'sugar and salt'. Savoury egg and vegetable dish, accompanied by croissant, bread, and a sweet serve that varies each day. We enjoyed apple roasted in honey and cinnamon one day which was outstanding. Meal is sufficient to keep you going for a few hours of walking through this wonderful town

Room Tip: Avoid room 1 if possible. Room 7 has large bed, and separate shower and toilet.

After reading comments from our customers regarding the room number 1, we involve the plumber to solve the problem permanently. The work was conducted on June 25, 2012.

We stayed here 4 nights based on reviews here. Our room was on the top floor which was lovely but quite an effort with 2 large bags. I would suggest you request a room on lower floors if you have mobility problems or lots of luggage. The room was spacious and separate bathroom clean and airy. Patrice was very helpful with directions and restaurant suggestions. He clearly enjoys and prides his hotel. Breakfast was perfectly adequate. The bus station and TGV shuttle were an easy 5 minute walk. We enjoyed our stay and felt it was excellent value for a 2star hotel.
